Faldo on commentary

A total swing rebuild followed by 6 majors and world no.1 status for a few years makes him, in my opinion, worth listening to. He knows golf swings better than just about any player/former player.

I know he seems to rub many people up the wrong way but I don't mind him at all.

What birdieman said

I used to think belly putters and broom handle putters were
just for the senior player, but theres a lot of people using
them on the different tours, even the women,I like faldo cos
he showed (along with Seve) how to beat the yanks, and not to
mention his playing ability,I for one dont draw a line on
the ball, because Id probably line it up wrong..

Mungo, Got to agree mate, do pro-v1's not have directional arrows on them from new? So banning using lines would mean Titleist have to scrap all Pro-v1's and make new ones. Don't think that would go down well.

What birdieman said

What both said. He's a golfer, not a meeja personality and he's been hired for his knowledge and is doing his best.
He might be clumsy, but still sounds quite humble to me, especially given his record. When was the last time anyone from the British Isles got 6 majors?
I use the line on my Pro Vs and other balls to line up my put. I disagree with him, but he has a right to his opinion.
I think putters over 38" should be banned, BTW, without a doctor's note.

I like him. He isn't afraid to say what he thinks and he has a point particularly with the longer putters. I don't think the arrows on a ball is necessarily such a valid point. All that will happen is manufacturers will put their brand name in a straight line and players will use that instead

But technically he's right. It is an aid to alignment, as are all the lines on putters, irons etc etc.
They're all deemed legal as I said earlier but they are an aid.

Why do people like to bash Faldo? He is what he is - the best Golfer we've produced. You have to have people commentating who are ex-players otherwise they have little idea what they're talking about. If you don't like it it's your problem. I hear he speaks very highly of you too....

I find it pathetic that there are still too many people on these islands who prefer a gallant loser to a winner. Faldo was admirably single minded in his desire to be as good as he possibly could be, 6 majors, 30 European tour wins, 25 Ryder cup points are testament to that.

I doubt he is losing any sleep over his detractors on this forum.

Just because he won 6 majors is no reason for people to like him or dislike him. Nobody can criticise what he has achieved in golf when he was playing and then he was judged on his game. Now he is a commentator and he is judged on different things, good communicator? charisma? knowledge of the current game not the game pre tiger 20 years ago. I liked watching him back then and i think he is an ok commentator but i can see why people would take a dislike to him.
