Evening all....
I know this topic is probably flaked to pieces but i thought id throw it out and see what happens.
Had a round this morning with my brother and did some analysing when we finished....
Iv come to the conclusion that i could be in trouble once the Lift Clean And Place conditions end.
My driving was so erratic this morning that even my brother was shocked. Its normally ok. Missed all fairways except 2 skyed 2 shots off the same tee into OOB on the left.
Blocked 2 more on 2 seperate holes into OOB on the left again.
Most of my drives on the par 4's and 5's were in the (rough) its not high now over the bad winter we've had but come the summer ill be in trouble....
Im wondering should i ditch the big stick for a few months and get some consistency into my game which in turn i hope will give me more confidence.
I hit my 5W very well (Carry 215mtrs) and my 3W (Carry 230-240mtrs)
Our longest par 5 is 488mtrs and our longest par 4 is 419mtrs.
Or should i just hit find , hit find, and keep MR. Big. :D

I am Bob..... When i first started playing the game i only used a 3 Wood then began knocking a 5 about so im pretty confident with these off the fairways or the tee's.
Iv been through a few drivers but cant seem to get on with any...I thought theat the one i have was "The One" but im second guessing myself now.

I hit my woods as far as my playing partners drives but its swallowing the "EGO" thing that im finding hard!

It feels great to really nail a drive but its no good being all over the place and long like tiger if i cant get back home with the 2nd.

Lately iv started swinging easier with the Driver but it seems to increase the chances of the ball landing somewhere it shouldnt.....I think that if i can get myself straighter off the tee then im really going to give myself a good chace of shooting good scores as my Iron game isnt too bad.

There you go, your not hitting it hard enough!!

Stop worrying about where it is going to go and just concentrate on hitting it really hard.
Don't get all pony on it, give it the white knuckle ride.
It's more fun that way too.

I've binned the driver in times past when it has become a liability. Even now I only use it maybe 5 times a round when the fairway is wide.

So, yes, bin the driver and keep it straight instead.

5w 236yds CARRY!!!
3w 253 - 264yds CARRY!!

I am so short...........

or realistic :p

Well Robo the Irons that im hitting into greens after my tee shots arent lying to me...No B.S. intended.
Im not boasting that i can hit a ball x x x Distance just stating a fact....Trust me ill take accuracy over distance any day....

Take our 1st for instance 329mtrs off whites (comp tees)
I hit a 5Wood and PW into the green... Wind and weather permitting that is. ;)

You hit your Wilson Staff 3w & 5w really well, and you don't hit the Macgregor driver well.

I'd be looking for a Wilson Staff driver as close to the same models as your other woods.

Shorty! I hit all my drives well over 600m and that's into an 800mph head wind :)

You said you were blocking them left? I'm guessing you're a cack handed leftie player?

Without getting into the distance thing, I think the obvious answer from your round today is keeping it in play. If that means ditching the driver then do whatever it takes. As I see it you have a number of options. You can try swinging with a quicker tempo if you think easing off is causing an issue. You can ditch the driver altogether for the time being. You can perhaps look at your course and decide if there are any holes where there is enough room to take the risk. You could get a driving lesson or you could just by a shiny new driver and hope it's the one

I've played two rounds now since I got my driver shortened and I've missed one fairway, and even then it was only by around 2yds.
It might be worth thinking about if you're struggling with control. I know it's a bit early to declare all my driving troubles over, but if it continues in this vain, it's the best £3 I've ever spent.

I'll echo that.

Had the driver shaft shortened by 1" yesterday and today hit 67% fairways instead of average 50%. Will it last or improve?? Dunnow, but it felt better.

No JOUK...
Right handed normal grip.....Im wondering now if the grip i have for all my other clubs, that if im applying this to the driver that i currently use (MacGregor DRAW bias)is causing the inaccuracy..... Maybe if the driver had a neutral face at setup i might be straighter!

Kid. You hit your 3 wood at least as far as my driver by the sound of it. I hit lots of fairways with my driver, but I wouldn't with another 20 yards on top.
Do what you know is the sensible thing. Leave it in the bag and only have a crack on the wide holes.

maybe you should think about hitting less off the tee, 3 wood or iron and more into the green. sure it has to be better hitting 7/8 or even 5/6 iron to green off the fairway than wedge from the rough, possibly from a bad lie or behind a tree!!

Thanks for the replies people.....
I know everyone is always sceptical of the distance thing thats why i dont like bringing it up...At times it has to be talked about but i know my distances and they are pretty accurate to within a few metres anyway.

I just dont understand people that rarely believe whats said...And yes there are people who exaggerate and boast about there distances but im not one....

I do know one day will come where a driver will have to be used but id hope im down in low teens or at singles before i can actually pull it from the bag and say to myself....Yep im going to put this exactly where i want it.

I think the macgregor will be coming to the local pro shop the weekend for a trade.... :D

just a thought, but maybe the fact that you aren't confident in your driver may subconciously make you feel nervous about hitting it which could enhance your probs.

Just had a quick look at your course and the 1st hole is quite a dog leg isn't it?? Are you aware of how the holes are measured??

Sorry if you think I'm being sceptical but experience of "big hitting" 20 h'cappers makes me that way. ;)
