I could do with some advice on the following ... The only fairway wood I carry is a 4 and I struggle to get any height with it. Usually knock the ball about 180 - 200 with it (in the dry) but because of the lack of height, control is rubbish (and it hardly comes out of the bag in winter).
Should I just swop it with a 3 rescue and cut my losses or should I suspect a swing problem & persist with the 4 wood (+lessons)? What combo of woods/rescues do you use? (I don't have any problem getting height with other clubs by the way) :D

If you don't get on with it or have confidence in it I would replace it. It may well be a swing problem as you say but plenty of pros with great swings carry hybrids.

I could do with a 3 wood but I've got an 18* hybrid and really like it. Remember you can get hybrids from 15 degrees right down so you could get one to replace a 3 or 4 wood easy enough.

This may be a technique issue - theoretically a fairway wood should fly high due to the weighting and centre of gravity. I've had a G10 4 wood and didn't have any issues getting the ball in the air. The fact that you can get the ball on the air with other clubs makes me think a swing problem is to blame - not my department !!

When they get here I'm gong to have.15* 3 wood (Tit910) combined with a 910 hybrid of 19* and then onto the 4i hybrid.....

The shaft can also affect how well your swing gets the ball in the air.

Do you have the same shaft in any of your other clubs?
