OK, so I finally got to play at my prospective new golf club today. I went round in a reasonable 84 (sss = 68) and didn't hit any duffers apart from a silly 70 yd pitch. One thing that I realise now though (having considered the holes where I struggled a bit too much) is that 7 or 8 or the holes would suit quite a generous fade, or common or garden SLICE! Really, all the dog-legs were L-R and there was ony one par 4 where a tasty draw was the best shot - which I duly executed to about 280 yds....hmmm....nice!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly Ernie Els, but having sorted a gentle R-L type of shot, I need to get into slicing mode!!!! The worst hole needed a 220-230 fade (which seems like good 3 wood territory) but I just stuffed it straight into the woods on the corner of the dog-leg.
Should I accept my fate graciously and get slicing! or learn to fix the need for a L-R flight with some subtle changes at address.
What a bummer....I spent 4 years learning to draw it....
PS - Straight is out of the question.....never hit a dead straight long iron or wood in my life......
????

Sounds like you need to learn a nice power fade. Learning how to slice the driver is just gonna knacker the rest of your game.

Subtle changes and no glancing the ball. Proper power fade only needs a slight stance adjustment. No aiming 30 yards left, maybe 5 or 10 at most. It's fun hitting it both ways (when it's intentional!).

Come on now. I did say when it works.

My favourite trick is seting up for a nice little fade, panicking at the moment of truth and producing what I like to call my ground-tunnelling-super-pull-hook.

Oh, how I laugh as I watch my new ball hurtling OOB.

Have your got any tips for me? or should I go to the range, put a club down the line of my toes (aimed a little left) and pretend I'm Montgomerie!!

That doesn't sound far off the mark!

I was watching VJ Singh practicing his driving at Kingsbarns last year and he has a great drill. He lines up square with a brolley implanted in the ground about 6 feet straight in front of his ball. He then proceeds to hit 20 or 30 power fades around the brolley. How he does it is his business but just thinking about that drill helps me do likewise without thinking about any technique. Occasionally get a big pull out of it but seems to work a lot more often than not.
