Very sad, it used to be such a special competition.
It is all wrong that money should taint sporting history.

Is it not the golfing equivalent of the Dunhill Links being a bigger event than The open.

The league will always be bigger

But the FA Cup is still special

FA Cup has dead for years. Still funny to see Manure going out in the last minute:rofl:

Dead ? Really ? Tell that to Wigan fans who won last year or Rochdale fans who just beat Leeds or Forest Fans etc - the FA Cup is alive and well

The clubs you mention are all the lower league teams with the exception of Wigan who were in the Prem at the time. Most of the big clubs do not care one way or another displayed by the poor attendances at yesterdays matches. Paul Lamberts comments before all the matches kicked of displays the attitudes of many of the top division. Once it used to be a close 2nd to winning the league but not anymore.

of course it is , there are a few that will knock it but to all the clubs cept maybe the few moneybags that its vitaly important to be in the top 4 to pay the pipers .. its still very alive & very well and as the rounds go on and a few of the"smaller "clubs are still there then the romance & dream is still there aswell ...

Sorry but football in the country isn't just about the top clubs - they are actually are a small % of the football in this country

When we got it the final two years ago it was a massive deal for us

Attendances are more down to the current travel situation , weather and finance as opposed to the comp being dead.

When it gets into the 5th round then the big clubs wake up because it's still a trophy.

Il agree it was a close second to winning & now most clubs would prefer to stay in the prem than win the FA cup & maybe its more important for the future of the club .. but its far from dead

Attendances have been pants in the cup for years not just a recent development or weather related. Afraid that Football is mainly about the top clubs in the country as they are the money spinners of the game. Many of the big clubs will not bother if they get knocked out, that is why they put out weak line ups a lot of the time and if they happen to get to the latter stages with this then they will start to take an interest as there is only 2 or 3 games left to play.

And the 35,000 at Derby.

Considering its just after Xmas I think the attendances have been very good. FA Cup still as important as it ever was with every team trying to win it.

It's just after Christmas when everybody is traditionally skint and football is no longer cheap, are you surprised that attendances are down? Do you actually go yourself & realise the costs incurred by fans?

Did you see the Line ups for Villa, UTD, Liverpool or West Ham to name a few......... As had been said, lower league teams will try for the money now not the glory. I just watched the live reactions to te draw at some clubs and they were physically groaning wen not picked against a big team (surely more chance if success). It's all about money money money to the clubs now! Fans care to a part, but the cup had always been after Xmas and the attendances were ok in the past.

Support Chesterfield FC my local team and go to the home games when off from college, do not support any of the top teams. Do not have much chance to watch the FA cup as we are normally out in the 1st round:) and TBH honest this season I was glad when we went out to Southend as our squad is ravaged by injuries and suspensions and we could do without the extra games and focus on automatic promotion.

And if it was Suarez a thread dedicated to him would have been started.

Are you mad that he dived , mad that he was yellow carded or mad that I mentioned it ?

And the Mancs go tumbling out

Not mad at either tbh:ears:

But I am very happy UTD are out of it,it was probably their only hope of silverware

Or the once in a life time to walk out at a premiership club against worldwide household names .. or to draw them at home and tell your grandkids you played against , terry , suarez , ozil etc ..where you see money i see the dream , the romance the FA CUP

Only when you're in it!
Would you be saying this if Oldham had won?

Slime.

Yes I would be saying it because Oldham beating us ( and even playing us ) is part of what makes it special

Sorry I should clarify, this were shown with chairman etc. not 30 players in a dressing room like the old days. So unless the chairman are putting their boots on then my point stands. I am nt saying the cup isn't important to players or fans. But the cup is part of a business, and re businessmen don't share te passion for it.

The FA Cup has no standing now and is just another side show that 99% of clubs don't give a toss about it and it's all thanks to the self proclaimed 'Best League in the World'.

Winning a trophy simply isn't as important as finishing 4th from the top or the bottom of the Premiership.

Sympathy for the fans.

You think Moyes is happy to be out? Or do you just think that his gamble didn't pay off? That team should still have beaten Swansea at OT. Sorry Dodger I too disagree.

The FA Cup is still held in high esteem by all footy fans, as I believe it is by the Clubs.

Forget about poor attendances for a minute, in most cases these are representative of current league form and/or feeling fans have toward their club as pricing is very attractive now in cup comps.

What does take the gloss of it for me is the timing of the first (third) round. It comes straight after the festive season coined with ALL clubs having played three games in six days. People often talk about it being too expensive etc and now the question has been raised about whether the clubs themselves give a hoot.

The only reason that some (2%) don't "give a toss about it" is because they have what they regard as no squad or deem the league to be of more importance. This season the 2.2% I can think of are Villa and West Ham. Everybody else wants to win and the fans will be out in force come the 4th and 5th round.

And here is the reason why nearly all Clubs (prestige aside) want to progress in the cups - TV and prize money in later rounds far outweighs a split of 45/45/10 for the gate receipts, unless of course you get drawn against united, arsenal, spurs or Chelsea.

Prize money, for reference.
