Grrrr! All this week, there have been horrendous winds at our place, something I am not yet used to. Needless to say, I have been all over the place. Very frustrating!

Anyone else been having a windy week. I imagine all the links players are used to it, but do any of the inland guys hate the wind as much as I do?

Hate it too!! Played in my first club comp of the year yesterday. Beautiful sunshine, course in great condition but a continual 25-30mph easterly gusty/swirly wind. Played terribly and it has highlighted my poor ball striking and serious lack of talent at this game! Frustrating as i've been playing really well this year and was hoping for a cut but as per it's another +0.1...bah

Re: F*&@$%^ WIND!!!

Just played this afternoon and certainly quite a breeze blowing. Never been keen on playing in windy conditions mainly because I find it so difficult to putt in. Long game not so bad but I made some huge misjudgements of distance on a few approach shots. At least I had the wind to myself when I played. The course was full of old farts this morning.

Re: F*&@$%^ WIND!!!

Yep,hate it. Pinged an almost perfect tee shot at the the short 14th on Friday, then stood and watched and the wind grabbed a hold of it and dragged it 15ft left to land just off the green. Managed to get up and down for a par but should've been looking at a short putt for a 2.

So frustrating.

Re: F*&@$%^ WIND!!!

course is normally windy but this weekend. been blowing a hooly. CSS went up 3 on Sat, loads of NR's. As a 3 ball, got to be the lowest combined stabey score we've ever had going out. I think 37pts won it with over 140 entries

Re: F*&@$%^ WIND!!!

Been out this afternoon and it was certainly a test of patience and club selection. Quite enjoyed the challenge and my 34 points was acutally pretty pleasing all things considered. My chipping went AWOL which as it's something I've been working on is a concern but putted great and drove it well so all in all a very happy camper

Played 36 hole scratch at Silloth on Solway yesterday, css 75 and reductions only, wind from opposite direction than usual and hitting blowing a gale. 5 hours 20 mins for 1st round, no way i was prepared to go out again for that length of time. Shot 82 and was happy with that in those conditions, 3 par fours out of range in 2 on the back nine and hitting driver at 2 of the pars 3's.

I dont mind the wind. I can usually manufacture a shot and enjoy punching and knock downs.

Our May Medal CSS was 3 over today, I came in at 3 over, damned annoying as I dropped 3 or 4 silly shots on the back 9.

I used to hate the wind but quite like the challenge now, as long as it's only occasionally! For me it's a matter of taking a bit off the shot when into the wind so it doesn't balloon and at last I've learnt to club up enough to compensate.

Like many above our comp was +3 CSS on Saturday. I've only seen it go up to +2 once before. Best score a nett level par out of 150. I managed a +4 so scraped into the buffer zone which was an unexpected bonus but it was just so hard with that easterly wind.

Played yesterday and it was a little bit "breezy" but nothing too bad. I don't mind playing in conditions like that, but when it's blowing a gale I'd rather not be out there.
Played in a Pro-Am at Princes last year with Robert Rock. It was blowing a gale, I'd say the worst conditions (wind wise) I have ever played in.
On one par 5, Mr Rock hit Driver and 2 x 3 woods and still came up short
He did chip close and get the putt for par though, but it shows you how strong it must have been for a touring pro to have to hit 3 woods into a hole.
No wind he would most probably have got home with a 4 iron second shot

I can deal with the wind every now and then, but it's been horrendous all week this week. Looking like more of the same today too.

This may sound like a silly question... I know what a punch is, but what is a knockdown? :o

I'm just writing a post on that shot

I was going to post a video of me playing one, but the Missus has just sent it off to "You've been framed"
:( :( :( :(

So glad it wasn't just me. Played our scratch comp yesterday and was 13 over after 9 with a lost ball on 13 nr'ing that card, the wind was a joke.

Up clubbing and flying the greens,

Balls up the righ side of the fairway hitting crosswinds and ending up Ob on the left

And so on.....,,

Was a bloody hard game, I think our scratch comp was won by a 6 capper on +11. according to the committee member I spoke to no adjustment to CSS either ......

played yesterday and it was a mare, rarely at our backs and nigh on all the par 3's it was blowing left to right. it was also bloody cold even tho the sun was out. All in all not an overly enjoyable round and one I shall just forget :) (except my new pb 32 putts with no 3 putts)

Hole number 7, Friday, driver, 50 degree wedge, one putt. Saturday, Driver, 4 iron, chip, two putts. What a difference the wind makes.

Fed up with it now.

36 hole stroke play next Sat. Less wind please.
