Eye prescription

Went for an eye test today and they have recommended varifocals, so I thought I'd try and read up on it before committing.

There are a bunch of numbers that mean zip to me.
Any clues anyone ?
If I have have slight long and short sightiness I would have thought it would be +ve and -ve readings , whereas both are +ve

I have tried varifocals and do not get on with them. I did buy relatively cheap ones and SpecSavers said this was part of why.

One thing you have to watch is the 'add' because this depends on your normal reading distance in standard or bifocal lenses.

I couldn't get on with varifocals so now have 'ready-readers' and prescription 'driving' glasses for long distance.

I have friends who can't wear them for golf at all. I think the difference is how big a gap there is between your reading & long distance vision. I can almost see at a distance without glasses & just about read without them.

I think the problem is when you look down at the ball through the reading bit & can't see it clearly. I don't have that problem.

Get a cheap pair & see how it goes.

Went varifocals years ago
Make sure they're fitted properly..my first ones weren't and I felt like I was floating for a day until I went back and got them sorted.

Had varifocals for over 15 years, get them from an Optician and pay more than Specsaver etc which i have tried but you pays your money and makes your choice, for me paying more is worth it .

Re varifocals, I have had them for years and they are fantastic, for me. But and it’s a massive but.I have had them from Asda and they were cheap and rammel. I have had them from Specsavers, and again rammel. Eventually I went to vision express and they have been far superior lenses. You can pay more and more for better lenses. Once you have had your prescription, there are online shops you can order from for cheaper glasses. I have never done that though.

Asda and specsavers just didn’t work for me but I know plenty of folk who have got on fine with them.
The best opticians I ever had was a small independent place that went bust through cheap imports.

I tried them and could not get on with them at all. Paid a fortune as well as went for the best lenses but was able to get a full refund.

I adjusted to varifocals very easily. But, I don’t golf in them - contacts are much better than any glasses for golf, especially putting.
