course was closed today due to the Herts Silver Salver so played at South Herts where my mate is a member. 3 from my club and him....had a friendly pairs match and also threw in a singles stableford........

Me and my partner won the match 6&5 so the cash was safe there......stood on the 18th tee, a par 5 with no-one getting a shot, I was in 3rd place....3 points behind 2nd and 4 points behind the leader. I announced that it was not mathematically over yet as an eagle would get me 4 points and tied for 1st, winning on count back.......this was dismissed by the others as they only had to score even if I did get an eagle........

Got to the green in 2, the guy in second was in a water hazard, then a bunker and didn't get it out and picked up......the leader was on the green in 4 but about 25 foot from the pin...........I rolled in my eagle putt for the 4 points and waited anxiously as the leader putted.....he left it 8 feet short......he had to hole it to clinch the win by a point.............

He made it......just..And pipped me by a point.........Fantastic drama to finish a great round........ Really enjoyable day with good mates at a great course.......and a result we'll talk about for some time to come....

Sounds a cracker, if only all games finished something like this, always good for the after match banter.

We play for a wooden spoon with my sunday four ball. You have to display said large wooden spoon on your bag until we are all together to play for it again. The last guy has had it for 3 weeks.
The amount of times it comes down to the last few shots on the 18th in unreal.
To add to the shame the loser gets his mug up on facebook for all to see. Makes you laugh when you get asked at work if you won the wooden spoon on a monday morning.
I've thankfully avoided it for about 3 months now but only just a good few times.

Its rounds like you've described that keep you coming back even after losing. I've really caught the bug again atm.

Great end to what sounds a good day of golf.

Had similar on Friday, birdied 17 for a win, then got up and down from sand for par to win the hole and halve the match on the Cheshire at Carden Park with friends we'd made whilst in NZ.

Sounds like you make an eagle putt every other hole!!! :D

Well played.... sounds like a good game.. I'm sure the others appreciated you telling them the scores on the 18th tee ;)

It was the other way round.......it was they who were rubbing in it saying that it was a 2 horse race and that I was out of it. I merely pointed out that mathematically I could still win, and told them that as they had dismissed me, I would make them pay dearly!!

It was funny watching each of them crumble as the pressure mounted after each shot.......the guy who sank the winning 8 foot putt said afterwards it was the most nerve wracking putt he had ever hit........and this was a friendly!!

If only all matches were that exciting.....

It would have been killer if you had won! But still newsworthy, you did all you could do, the rest was up to them and they nearly came though.

....

Id say the comments were good at this stage ................. no sledging id say ............. Then the banter in reply when it was holed would be better .. 4 mates , close finish & good banter ... sounds like a cracking day all round .. oh and a 6&5 rear end whipping to boot
