I'm looking to improve my ball-striking. At the range today I saw some ex demo clubs for 8 quid. By chance there was a mizuno mp52 in my spec (inch long, 2 degrees up) and I wondered whether having a much less forgiving 6 iron for practice would help me learn to hit the ball better.

Any thoughts?

Just because your TM "Spec" is an inch longer and 2 degrees up doesn't mean the Mizuno - using the same measurements - will be the same.
MP52 6 iron as standard is 30 degree loft, 61 degree lie, 37.25 inches long
TM BUrner 2 6 iron as standard is 27 loft, 62.5 lie and 37.625 long.

Only a 1/4 inch difference in length but 1 1/2 degrees in lie.
That's got to make a difference to the strike.......

I don't think MP-52 are that unforgiving, they are the "easiest" MP irons from last year.

I run MP 53s and I am no mean ball striker but I was no better with JPX800.

I think as a 14 handicapper you will be hitting the ball pretty well and may revel in the 52s and for £8 or whatever you said it's cheep enough to find out.

Golf is 10% mental and 90% mental, with a crafted club fit for you, you want to hit it better so maybe you do. On the flip if you not feeling confident then your mentality may be "my GI clubs will forgive me" thus giving you confidence.

£8 try it out... Bet you could eBay is for £12 if you don't like it.

I have got MP52's and find them forgiving with a decent size head. Out of the middle they are also nice and long (so I am told :D)

I bought a bladed 6I for £10er - then used it at the range over the winter - really helped my ball striking - and I am the best iron player in my 4ball - of which I put a lot up to the blade.

Though I am not so sure if the club is bent to a different lie than your normal spec.
