Sunday was our monthly society round 3 and after a sketchy round 1 I was hoping my new wonder ions were going to come through. Got to the course about an hour early so hit the range they had there, although a little misty the sun was trying to break through and I was convinced it was going to be a good days golf, even had my new shoes on too....

So the range, started with a few wedges, up to 7i, then onto 5i's and as a rule it all looked ok, a few hooky 5i's but back to the drills and cue nice soft fades. Given that the course we were at can play a bugger into wind I was even practicing knock down shots which seemed tobe all good. With the warm up done its off to breakfast before we tee off.

First tee, shock horror snap hook on a dog leg right sees me walk off with a 6/1 onto the 2nd and a da'ja vu tee shot and it's 6/0. The 3rd was just as bad, first ball into a lake(reload) come up short of the green and it was a 5/0 and although it was good up and down it was wasted. Hook city up 4 and a scramble saw a 4/3 par on their si1 but I'm stood on the 5th tee despondent to say the least.

What followed was 14 holes of " toilet golf " to the point where even my safety swing packed up and headed for warmer climates. Now normally hooksville is only a short visit, normally rescued by the safety swing , but on this occasion nothing worked and everything filth wrong,

Plane, grip, body turn and any rhythm was gone, I had nothing. Duffs, shanks, thins, fats, lag putts, returned by gat wick express putts, it was dreadful.

What do others do in situations like this when even your plan b.... And c does not work?

It's meant to be the first medal of the year Sunday and at the moment I'm not overly fussed about missing it

Ps we lost out match play side bet 10 down. :(

Not a lot you can do when it goes. My biggest problem is tempo and sliding hips. The quicker I get the more the hips slide but of course the more you think about it the more you seem to speed up and the circle never getts broken. When you have a round like you describe its best to man up, smile (through gritted teeth) and grind it out and then gt back to the drills on the range. If the pros can still chuck the odd 79 or 80 in every now and then it gives us all a degree of hope.
