European Tour card regulations

Can anyone explain how many tournaments a player is required to play to retain their tour card and what happens if they fail to achieve this number?

After the situation with McIlroy last season I thought this had been revised to 5 tournaments not including majors or World Golf Championships.

As Justin Rose is not playing the rest of this season and hasn't played any regular European tournaments does this mean he has to give up his European Tour card?

Haven't looked it up but i think its completely different to the way you're thinking

He's played 8 European tour events this season but as I say i doubt that's any major part of the criteria

Things like tournament wins can give 2 or more years exemption (& he has the olympics)

Also I think its primarily based on money won and rankings as to who retains their card

I thought he was due to play in the British Masters?

Anyhow, he may well have lifetime membership after winning the US Open three years ago.

Olympics and Ryder Cup count towards his tally, however he's taking the time off for medical reasons. With the British Masters and Race To Dubai he would have hit his quota.
