didn't sound like a 'visitor' moan to me, it sounded like a particularly valid point the OP made. Now i've read through his posts twice now and i must be going blind because I can't see the bit about taking yourselves and green fees elsewhere.

Additionally, could you kindly confirm who you are referring to as brainless?

Exactly, I was first off on the Saturday a. The amount of chatter and laughing I heard from the "member" as we were on the greens was pretty poor. Also justagolfer did the forummers cause all the divots on the fairways, pitchmarks on the greens and the bunkers being left unraked?

They had waited and so were probably judging by the team photo “ bursting a gut “ to get to the bar .

Well at least we spent a couple of quid in your bar, the members would be doing well to follow our lead instead of the empty room that WE filled.

You come across as quite a bitter and insignificant little man and I hope all the other members of your club are the opposite to you.

The sign at 18 is not a local rule.You can also putt out on 17 if you so wish,nothing at all to stop you putting out when guys are driving from 18.I have also lost count of the number of members who ignore the request on the sign at the bottom of 18 to stand back and let the group behind drive when you reach the 18th green but does it bother me when this happens? Not in the slightest,sh1te happens,lifes too short.

Justagolfer also goes by the name Gilbert Hamblett for those of you who frequent the Howdidido forum and I am sure you will all remember how that all ended....
 
hold on a minute, let's not get off the high horses for a moment.

I was there at Goswick and watched the 8ball tee off down 18. Not very conventional at all. I'd have been rightly cheesed off if a group did this at my own club. So, with that in mind I apologise for any inconvenience the members were caused by our actions.

The game I played in took 41/2 hours to get round. IMO that was slow for a Saturday morning. Perhaps we need to look at the format for Saturday in future events to allow play to keep moving along at a proper pace. All it takes is one group to get out of place and it causes mayhem, that's what caused the resulting 8ball off the 18th.

However, if a club is prepared to take the visitors £££ on a Saturday, then there has to be some leeway built into the tee allocations, because with the best will in the world, visitors will nearly always be slower than members no matter where you play.

Lets not be too hard on the OP, he has said his piece and as he is entitled to do. It would just have been better if he'd spoken to us at the time.

Justagolfer , not condoning any of this for a second .. BUT if your club had this many golfers PAYING greenfees & contributing to your bar & food , hence your club income & this is the only incident you can mention well ?? .. most clubs would be crying out for this kind of financial input in these times , ok so you got put off for a couple of minutes thats not great & agreed that should not have happened , they were playing the 18th so even if they had played in two 4 balls you would not have finished any earlier , these guys arent young yobbos they are all golfers who love golf & would not purposely be rude, just a mistake & ye should have just said it to them & im sure they would have quietened down & apologised,other option is mayb stop allowing these visitors & double your anual sub ?

Bill you forget to mention the free publicity this annual game gives the club.

That publicity is priceless,there will be a write up in the coming addition of GM and the cost of that is nada.

To do that by advertising would be substantial.

It is just a shame a certain member comes on here and tries to wipe away the free,good publicity the club has received through the work of a couple of it's club members who pushed hard for this annual game to be held at Goswick and could see the benefits exposure like it has had would bring to the club....
 
What was wrong with all 8 teeing off at the sametime? The local rule says that if the 1st 4ball had teed off then walked to the green. They would then have to stand around until the 2nd 4ball had teed off and marked there balls before they putted out. The samething really but would have taken longer. Plus it sounds a bit doggy standing at the green whilest 4 more balls wiz around your ears.

In my mind from the sound of the op. He is just the type of stuffed shirt that has held golf back for so many years. But I maybe wrong there.

And the other bit was a joke about slow play, hence the smiley. No offence meant. I've taken some though, now that you're getting personal.
 
Okay. I'll hold my hand up that I was part of the now infamous 8 ball and I can tell the OP that the only intention was to clear the tee as quickly as possible and get the course moving.
If this inconvenienced the OP then I apologise. It was obviously a bad decision.
 
We forumers (at least some of us) did play slowly and DCB is right in saying that perhaps keeping individual stableford scores on the Saturday did slow things down a bit (that was my idea, sorry). The eight ball ending was a bit unfortunate. I could go into elaborate detail about how the whole thing finished the way it did, the lost balls, Grumps sinking his second for a net albatross, the group playing through etc etc but there is no point in extending this debate.

So, we would apologise to any of the Goswick members who were aggrieved at our bahaviour.

However, we are not a bunch of lager-frenzied yobs and we did hand over £1,350 in green fees plus £X behind the bar. The club gets great publicity on the forum and also in the mag so let's just agree to disagree, call it a score draw and look forward to next year at Goswick.
 
Whilst I'm not going to get dragged into the rights and wrongs of what happened, it is rather disappointing to see the number of references to the of money that was spent on green fees and over the bar.

Paying a green fee or spending money behind the bar doesn't excuse poor behaviour or manners at all. I'm sure we've all seen examples of visitors misbehaving at our own courses and the fact that they are spending money at our club doesn't excuse that.
 
I agree completely, HRC99. However, two guys in the last two groups have already explained why they did what they did and it's obvious that their intentions were well meant, i.e. to speed things along without causing inconvenience to other golfers. The green fees were simply mentioned, I'm guessing, because we were asked by the OP in another thread to take our business elsewhere next time. I don't think there was any question of misbehaving or causing the decline in standards that he referred to.

Anyone need a group hug? I'm here all day.

Do you think having 32 guys or so there for the weekend & there is 1 "issue" during that whole time is a bad result for anyone involved .. ok it shouldnt have happened there is nobody saying it should & some of the guys have been on & apologised for that , but to assume guys were "bursting a gut" for the bar because of the pics (??) & telling guys to go elsewhere next year becaue of this one incident is just as rude as the origional incident . you are totaly right in saying paying a green fee or spending money doesnt excuse "misbehaving" but one incident that was done to try speed up things hardly is misbehaving , there is no mention of any other incident on the course or in the bar.. Unfortunatly in this time visitors are an essential to any club , so sorry for mentioning money again but it is a godsend for any club at present, also if everyone that did something wrong was told to go elsewhwere , it be a fairly quiet place wouldnt it ?

What???... the fact is, the golf club is a business, the members (including the OP) subscribe to that business for the right to play golf there. The amount of money we paid to the club, i'd imagine, helps to keep subscriptions down and facilities mantianed etc... It is a very valid point and no one is condoning what happened with the money, merely making a point that the comment 'go somewhere else next year' was, to say the least... strange!

We were invited to Goswick in 2009 and back again in 2010 and 2011. The amount of publicity the place has been given not just on here but in the magazine as well, i'm sure, helps to promote the business. Have we had any other complaints in the 3 years we have been there?

I played with DCB in match (4 i think?) and it was slow. Not for any particluar reason than keeping the scores for the individual. Everyone had to putt out and so it always slows things up. There was no standing around gassing about crap, talking between tee shots, marking cards on greens etc. Everyone I played with at Goswick had absolutely outstanding manners and followed ettiquette as good as anyone I have ever played with.

The 8 ball at the end was a little strange, but I'm sure when the decision to drive off together was taken, it was so with the best intentions of other at heart. It just didn't work out like that. Vistors are always going to be slower around a track than members. Thats golf!

REALLY, I understand the OP's frustration, I've been there. Usually its because I hit a bad shot, scored crap and need someone to blame... I do wonder if he made his birdie, or par, or even made the fairway? just a thought.
 
Ok- The guys have apologised,realised with hindsight they may have done things differently, are experienced golfers who are more than aware of the rules.

We have ALL done things that upon reflection we would have done differently BUT hindsight is wonderful. The Club have received the fees, publicity to follow and probably a repeat booking so everyone should be happy.

Let's not get too involved and personal guys
