First 2 days is medal, 1 round at Ganton and 1 at Scarborough. Top 64 qualify for the matchplay. We have one lad playing (Tom Robson) and after day 1 is in joint 18th place. However, looking at the scores most of the leaders were at Scarborough for their first round so it could all flip flop after today when they play Ganton.

Never played either course but from looking on the web Ganton looks like it could be a bit tough.

Ganton is on a different planet from Scarborough toughness wise, that is reflected in the SSS/CSS from the event as well

Ganton CSS 77 against par 71 R/O

Of the 144 that played ganton, 84 didn't break 80.

I don't know what the obsession is with playing 2 courses (with one usually being a bit Sh!t). They should have just played ganton the entire time.

Apparently last year it was supposed to be Moortown & Alwoodley, but Moortown wouldn't be the '2nd course' meaning they only had one of the qualifiers and no matchplay, so they pulled out

My mate Scott Gregory is playing but seems to have burnt out after the open and playing for GB & I last week

The field is almost 300 people, you either cut the field in half or need two courses

Ganton is, arguably, the toughest test of golf in Yorkshire,Steve, due to gorse, heather & many very, very deep bunkers. Played 36 there a couple of years ago with Silver in a Mid-Amatuer Event... very, very demanding course & not easy to get on, even these days. Hope your mate enjoys it & finds a way to make a score... either way he'll defo remember it. One for your Bucket-list matey

I e-mailed them a few years ago Dave to see if they did open events. Apparently they only have a junior open so I'm about 36 years too late.

I will ask Tom about it when he returns.

Played ganton before and to be honest it's one of the best and toughest courses I've played
Although when I did play it I scored well

Ganton is an incredible course. I played so badly though so it took me a couple of hours after the round to fully appreciate how amazing it is

England golf are trying to go down the route of 2 course venues to make the field larger so people can get in, if they had it a one course venue then the field would be limited and balloted low and then everyone would be having a pop at how they cant enter these events.

Places like Ganton don't have another spectacular course nearby so you are always going to get one weaker course.
