Energy foods for during the round

Good choice, what aspect of golf are you concentrating on?

Management. There is an element of Biomechanics involved as well as the performance side but it is mainly Management Nowhere near good enough to focus on playing side. Can rip it up with the best of them on a good day but just far to inconsistent. Shot a 93 early in the week!! Some of the guys here are +2,+3 handicappers which is out of my league. Some of them are internationals, Paul Kinnear is one, a member at Formby he shot 63 round there last year.

Well done you, another good choice.
Management and maintenance are the future in golf and that is where the money and jobs will lie. HGK/Course managers are starting to become the highest paid club employes.
I was a course manager at a top club in the late 1970's and I was earning more than the Secretary. Not the norm in those days!!!

If it is not included in your course try to take a basic course in greenkeeping, that will help when looking for employment early in your career.
PM me if you want a chat.

Cheers for that. Greenkeeping is not something that is included in the course. I will look at doing that when the course has finished, I have 1 more year left after this one which is finished in 2 weeks, the workload in the final year is high so once that is out of the way I will definitely look at doing a basic course.

If you are reasonably fit, then a four hour walk, dawdling along, with the odd golf swing in between, shouldn't leave you short of energy. It just shouldn't.
If you are a bit over weight, unfit, and struggle to play 18 without some sustenance, may be you need to look at your exercise regime, not your on course diet?

Sums it up really. Water, nuts and seeds do the job

Exactly right. As I said previously, if you get tired walking 18 holes, a sports drink and a peanut butter sandwich ain't gonna help.

Interesting on how much effort you need for golf. Not much more than crown green bowls and less than a good walk! Still, if you play a round in 5+ hours it is a decent bit of exercise I suppose.

dont see how walking uses more energy than golf as golf IS walking and swinging and carrying, your chart is for a 40 yr old women though:lol:

Squash at the top, I've seen guys play county team matches without breaking sweat if they control the 'T', forgot, its that 40yr old woman again:whistle:

Not so sure about that Snelly [or were you being ironic]

Slouching round in 5 hours using a buggy or electric trolley, waiting, eating and drinking as opposed to a brisk 2.5 hour round carrying a light bag.
Mentally and blood pressure wise I would be shot away on a 5 hour round.

That still equates to about 800 calories in 3 hours. Considering that you'd burn 150 or so sat on your couch in the same time period I know that I'll still feel better at the end if I have a granola bar half way around.

Here's my two-penneth.
After reading the orriginal posting ithought i'd conduct me own little experiment, being the curious chappy i'am.
Monday, my usual routine, pint of tea with toast for breaky and a bottle of pop from the machine to take round with me, drank it all for a change it was a lovely day Monday.
Tuesday, same breaky but this time took 2 500ml bottles of water, a nanna and 2 bars of fruit an nut. As advised i drank at regular intervals and snacked all my way round. Again a lovely day.
Conclusion, Whilst my golf didn't improve, in fact i played worse on Tuesday, i did genuinly "feel " better after my round on Tuesday. Not half as tired. Not conclusive i know, but hey if it makes you feel better perhaps there is something to this alchemy:ooo:

You have to stay hydrated regardless of your fitness levels. The minimum anyone should have is 500ml of water, as for food then the nutritonists will talk cereal bars and fruit but again it depends on the person. I can go round with sandwiches, chocolate or cereal bars and neither make a difference to my game or mind, they just stop the hunger HOWEVER there are plenty out there who need to watch sugar levels and 2 posters on this forum Andy and Farneyman will tell you what they need to do in terms of food and drink and these guys are worth listening to.

I take 2 or 3 bananas and lots of fluids. I drink plenty and eat a banana every 4 holes. I feel much better when I do this as opposed to not taking anything to eat and not enough fluids then I feel tired by the end of the round.
