Is anyone playing in this? Link is matchplaychampionship.co.uk
Entries close later this week.

I just made my £25 donation - haven't played in a matchplay comp in about 13 years but assume they are still riddled with sandbaggers (real reason for my rant being that my game is either red hot or stone cold lately so I will be feeling aggrieved if I have to give 10 shots and get beaten off the stick!). Should be good fun anyway and a good chance to play a new course if I'm not at home.

the preferred option seems to be the volvo comp as it gets started earlier in the year and there are more matches during summer (sic)!
good luck.

I looked at it but when I saw they allow and have a category for players with a 'lapsed' handicap it put me off. It was also on Sky a few nights ago and in the final were a pair who were runner up last year.............bet their handicaps are accurate.....

for that reason, I'm out!

Yeah although at least the lapsed handicaps are kept separate. They play in a category with people with do it yourself handicaps which is even more dodgy. I'm looking forward to it but not expecting to go far. The winner of the final had three consecutive stableford rounds of around 40 points and the course did not look easy - assume he will have a lot of .1s to hand in before next year to get back to that level.

Leicester - north or south section?

I've no idea. I don't remember having to choose a section, although I'll be a bit peeved if I have to go as far as Liverpool for a game.

Doubles I'm a bit further north, entered from a course in Notts.

I watched the thing on sky last week and was pleasantly surprised at how sensible the scores were, all bar 2.

Yes I was fortunate enough to win and went to Dubai in May....it was great and yes they have some real bandits...so grow your moustache and get a sombrero!
I am in it again this year so long as I dont get drawn to go to Spean Bridge! :mmm:

i can still feel the midge bits 3 weeks later. (that was the Volvo)...needless to say that after a 4 hour round trip drive and peeing down with rain plus the midges I lost so I was not a happy boy after that experience!

Its ok, its just for the final qualifier. Both of last years were at the Forest of Arden anyway. The 5 matches beforehand are locally based anyway (ours is North west).

I'm giving this another go, but holding too much hope after playing some one with an "inactive" h/c on the list in the club house, but claimed they became active a couple of days before!!
