Hi all

Quick Question

I am looking to get an electric golf trolley, now because of my tight budget I cannot afford a new powakaddy etc
Although i have seen i can get a Powakaddy Freeway for £80-100 Second hand.

Alternatively I can afford a new one, non branded (Chinese) Does anybody have experience of these? As They look a lot of trolley for the buck!

personally I wouldnt trust a chinese import. better to get a uk supported model 2nd hand. I had a 2nd hand powerbug that cost me 80 notes off ebay, passed it onto a playing partner and apart from a new battery its still going strong 2 1/2 years on.

Thats what I wondered, but then I thought well its basically a motor with a battery "What can go wrong!" And I have experience in importing from China and not all is poor quality

I have no doubt most if not all electric trolleys on sale over here are using parts manufactured 'overseas'

If your confident buying from China then go for it.

Fair point, and I suppose at £100 odd, its not a massive risk. I suppose either option is fine at that kind of money, just was hoping i'd know of someone with one of these for their experiences up hills etc! :)

I think most motors will be much of a muchness tbh, Just because a trolley costs 400+ doesnt mean its all quality. Theres plenty of posts about so called premium trolleys having issues on the web.

what make/model is the one your looking at?

Why not go for a decent branded push trolley

1- no faffing with charging
2- no expensive repairs
3- no replacement batteries every 12/18 months.

Please of great push trolleys out there now and 80-100 would buy you a near new high spec market leader like click gear

I have a two year old Motorcaddy S1 Digital trolley and 18 hole battery/charger for sale as I recently won a new model at Xmas in the Clubs pro raffle (live in Herts). Would recommend them. Saw one on ebay go for £200 would accept £150 ono (can send photos).
Don't know if that helps .....

I have had powakaddys and motocaddy trolleys, I get no more or no less pleasure pushing a z3' but it's suitable for the above reasons
I have a motocaddy and I just bought my lad a masters push trolley and was very surprised how good they are. To the op save your money and buy a push trolley. My motocaddy battery lasts a year and it's £80 for a new one each time.

A bloke at work bought one of the cheap new (I assume imported) models from ebay in the summer for about £150.... Having seen it I'd rather go 2nd hand. It just seemed very flimsy and, well, cheap.

My Powakaddy battery is 4 years old and still going strong, no problems at all. Do you leave yours uncharged for periods of time after using it?

I would go the 2nd hand route, if the Chinese lookylikey arrived in the first place you might well have build quality issues and parts/servicing could be tricky. IMO

Mines just coming into year 4, mind you I don't play the amount you do.

My Motocaddy S1 is about 3 years old, the original battery is just starting to go. It gets round 18 holes just, have to give it a bit of a push up hill and on full power I can outwalk it, whereas new I had to run after it on 7....... Looking for a new battery and weighing up lithium vs a replacement lead/acid one. Cost is 3x for the lithium, and I can find absolutely no deals on lithium batteries. Been scouring the web and ebay, there are a number of alternative leas options such as Yuasa, Lucas etc. and there are two alternative lithiums (lite power and little miracle). Was just on the verge of ordering a little miracle until by chance yesterday I found a horror thread on another forum which has put me off them, and the lead alternatives. Am just about resigned to a new Motocaddy lead battery, which at £69 ish is the cheaper reliable option and if it lasts the same 2 - 3 years as my original, is probably the more cost effective option..... As a point of note my trolley did in excess of a 100 rounds last year.
