Bought a hybrid 2 weeks ago, still not turned up,contacted seller and told him.
Checked sorting office and nothing, it was posted 2 weeks ago standard parcel.
Asked the seller for a refund as PO has clearly lost it, seller refused until he gets a refund first.
So paid out for a club which I do not have or will likely receive, to me the seller's problem lies with the PO and not me.
Am I being unfair to ask for a refund, personally I think he should refund me now and not wait until he gets compensation which could be weeks and weeks.
As a trusted seller myself I would have refunded straight away, defietely giving v negative feedback.
opinions please

Nothing wrong with wanting a refund. Why should you have to wait just because he has to. Raise a dispute with Paypal and get them to sort it out.

Tricky one this. I have been in a similar situation but I was the seller. My buyer contacted me saying club not arrived and asked for refund. I refused until I spoke with PO and check there stance. They said give it a few weeks just in case it turn up. Any way 3 weeks later and no news PO was asking for receipt.and proof of sending.buyer started getting funny with me then I heard nothing from buyer. Turns out he recieved it 4 weeks late. But he never told me PO did. Would he of told me he recieved it and returned his refund. I would never know. Alway pay for recorded delivery then you can track it.

i checked the sorting office today and zip all for me.3 weeks is a bit excessive for sonething that should take 5 days max dont you think?
anyway raised a dispute with ebay, nay try something with paypal as well.until then hybridless!!

Look at it from his point of view, it's possible that you have received the club and you are trying to get your money back aswell (ie have your cake and eat it).

Not saying this is the case, sure it's not, but there are people around who pull that kind of stunt and if he did instantly refund you he could very easily end up with absolutely nothing.

Personally in his shoes i would seek a refund from Royal Mail before refunding the buyer.

But I would never be in his shoes because whenever I sell something valuable I make a point of using tracked postage.

Yes you are right to want a refund, but sadly in situations like this some patience is required. I believe something has be "missing" for 15 days before you can even put a claim into Royal Mail for it.

so your saying i have to be out of pocket for 5/6 weeks before receiving anything then? hardly fair.standard parcel only insures for £30 so i hope he added extra insurace.
i can tell you now its not in my bag,got nearly 500 ebay transactions and all hassle free so i think i can be trusted.
as i said as a seller if i sold something to someone with this much positve feedback i would have refunded him,if subsequently it turned up i would hooe he returns the refund.

Is it fair that he is both out of pocket and missing a golf club because Royal Mail screwed up? Would it be fair if he refunded you and Royal Mail refused to pay out?

Don't doubt your trustworthiness. It's just as likely that he never sent the thing in the first place. No way of definitively knowing exactly what has happenned is there?

Just one of those things I'm afraid.

p.s What you would do in his situation is essentially irrelevant. Every Ebay seller has different views on this kind of thing. As this thread proves.

never said it was fair.my point being it should now be between the seller and the post office.
put it like this,if you bought something from argos say and it went missing what would you be asking them for?
as far as i can see there is no difference

Argos - multi billion pound corporate machine.

Ebay seller - a living breathing human being just like you.

As Fundy says, you seem pretty sure that you are being perfectly reasonable so why do you require our opinions?

If he isn't taking adequate steps to solve the problem and accusing you of things you haven't done... i can understand your frustration, but that isn't what your original post said is it?

As a seller if anything I list is likely to exceed £50 then I'll only offer postage options that are tracked and with sufficent insurance... As a buyer if the item is likely to exceed £50, if the seller isn't already offering a tracked/insured option, I would request that he/she does...

By now, if seller hasn't already, I would have expected to see some evidence of proof of posting at the very least... Post office won't entertain any claim for 15 days and then only with a certificate of posting...
