Should really get to bed as I'm playing West Hill tomorrow and I'm supposed to be leaving at 06:00......... Looks like a warm one but won't be wearing shorts as it's either knee length socks (single colour) or white calf length (min 4 inches above the shoe)" which must be without logo or adornment". Long trousers it is then..... :D

My son in law liked his early starts, like a lot today he has to manage his time well with his job.

I travelled down one weekend last year from the North West and we started to play next morning at his Mid Herts club at around 7.0am. We needed to get round quick as we had plans for the afternoon. Hence the early start

We were first on the course, great stuff. The 5.30am alarm had paid off. Or so we thought. Part way round we were waiting on the tee with a number of groups in front, who had started the on the 9th, as directed by the Pro. Like a lot of you younger men and women, he has problems finding time to play, so he did not re-new his membership this year. The system at Mid Herts was not the primary reason for quitting, but it certainly helped him make his mind up

I regularly have the first tee off time (6:44) at my club...... getting to know the greenkeepers quite well!! It tends to be really nice. No hold-ups, a part from said greenkeepers, get finished then head to the bar for coffee and fry-up!!!

Like a lot of clubs, Mid Herts operate a system where 1 and 2 balls can go off the first, and 3 and 4s off the tenth, and then it swaps at different times. Enabling people to start off two tees maximises course utilage in busy times. Otherwise from 7.00 till 9.00 half the course is empty.

It is not unusual.

At my course the earliest tee off time is 07.00. If a two races round to the tenth in an hour, they will get held up by 4 balls going off the tenth from 08.00. If we did not do this (and we used not to), then it put another 40 guys trying to go off the first. This really wasn't practical.

Have the first tee off 7am every sat at my club. Beat the sat swindle out and have a drink with my father in law who plays in the swindle when it finishes. Love being first out. Get to play at my own pace and have nobody holding me up.

Would have needed an early start for Chepstow so opted for the overnight option. Lovely AA 4 star B&B, HID happy and bloody good grub. Woke up chilled and relaxed despite HID's snoring, full Welsh breakfast tea and toast, leisurely stroll down the river before a 15 minute drive to the course. Quick bucket in the range, meet the playing partners and bomb one down the middle of the 1st. Easy

I hate getting up early even at weekends for rounds at my own club as I have to get up for work early and so prefer a lie in but would always manage it if golf is involved. Not sure long trousers was the correct call having come back to all this humidity compared to Wales.
