Dubai World Championships - only 58 to start

so what format is it?
same as the Fed-Ex where the leader has a massive advantage or once you've qualified everybody equal?

also, anyone know where it's likely to be televised?

I would have loved to have seen Darren Clarke in Dubai, but I agree that it should only be the top 60 there, after all, they have had all season to make the top 60.

Pretty safe to say that it will be a 'two horse' race, between McIlroy and Westwood, obviously with McIlroy being clear favourite.

Strokeplay over four days (I'm asuming no cut) anyone can win the Dubai World Championship, but the Race (order of merit) can only be won by McIlroy, Westwood, Kaymer or Fisher. Casey was in contention if he had been fit.

The difference in prize money between first and second is more than the difference between McIlroy and Westwood so if either of them win the tournament they win the Race To Dubai.

Not sure what the permutations are for Kaymer and Fisher to win.

As for TV it is on Sky.

My money would be on Fisher to win the tourney, but McIlroy to win the race money, as I don't think either of them will score well in this. The pressure will be on them, and they will crumble. Westwood has crumbled before, and Rory Mc's putting will let him down when he needs it most.

I would think McIlroy would have to finish in the top 5 or 10 to win the Order of Merit if Fisher wins the tournament.

As you say McIlroy's putter has let him down and Westwood, although consistent, hasn't finished tournaments off recenty, that's why I think Kaymer will sneak in and with the Order of Merit.

I've not watched golf on TV for a long time so my opinion counts for nothing, but someone who's opinion I respect, and is one of not very many people to have walked the course, reckons it will suit Westwoods game more than any other.

Whether he can hold it together if he gets in a good position is another question.

Im with homer on this one not wanting to sound biased or anything being from Ireland but Harrington is due a win the last 4 or 5 tournaments he's been in the top ten if it clicks for him he'll be hard to beat.
Jiminez as everyone knows is Mr. Consistent and Id probably sway Dyson for maybe Lee or Rory or Ross.

Returning to the OP - in Tour events there is a cut-off point, after which you only get into the tournament if players drop out. The principle is the same - make the cut-off and you've qualified, miss it and you have to rely on withdrawls. Lets face it, that's how JD won his PGA Major. So it makes sense that if you have drop-outs that they get replaced. The WGC events do it, even the Matchplay, the Majors do it, I bet the World Matchplay the other week would have replaced a withdrawl.

Who's for a play-off between Mclroy and Westwood that doesn't finish because of darkness?
