Does anyone have any practice drills for a evening on the range? I seem to just hit balls at the moment but don't see any improvements during the round, albeit an hour, once or twice a week in the evening from HID is always nice, I wouldn't mind seeing some improvement on the course

Also been having a look at getting some alignment sticks, never used these before? Anybody use them and have noticed an improvement?

Pretend you are playing your home course. So for eg, hit a driver then a 5 iron as you would to the first, then a 8 iron for the par 3 2nd, then a 3 wood and a wedge for the third etc etc.

Breaks up the session and is closer to playing golf than just pounding balls with the same club repetitively

use a couple of clubs instead of expensive alignment sticks:thup:

Playing your own course-in your head- is a good tip

My sticks where £6 from AG, why put expensive clubs on the ground? If your on a grass range or even mats your grips can get dirty or worst case scenario you can step on your club. A set of sticks will last forever.

Or pop down to B+Q and buy a couple of bamboo garden canes and you can even paint them white if you want. You can normally choose which ones you want so you can get the straightest ones in the rack and they do exactly the same job as the alignment sticks.

I know what I think when I see ams carrying alignment sticks around in their bag, they didnt exist a few years ago and now they are 'essential'

Sucking eggs alert!
As a high handicapper trying to improve I visit the range fairly often.
Initially I made the common error of seeing how far I could smash a drive.
I'd stand on the mat waiting for the next ball to pop up and happily whack away.
The penny eventually dropped and now I only focus on alignment and accuracy. I step away after every shot and then realign.
I picture my course fairways that demand accuracy, I choose two targets on the range and focus on driving between them to "hit the fairway" rather than worry about how far I hit.
I do the same with irons off the mat.
I also make a point of going from the range to the club practice putting green for 20/30 minutes.

I've used a club for alignment and Ive also used a bamboo stick from the garden.
