Hi people, new to the site, hoping to find some answers.....my question is my distance on my driving. It seems to me that i lack distance, i hit my 3 wood just as far as my driver, sometimes further.....cant quiet work out where im going wrong if i am at all? and for a player who plays off 18 how far shall be hitting it in the first place, 200-230 yrds?

is my club too long? is my driver?

any help?

The three wood is easier to 'time' than the driver, due to a shorter shaft, and heavier head. You are obviously not getting the best from your driver due to a combination of poor timing, and / or the wrong shaft to suit your swing.

Playing off 18, you should probably stick with the 3 wood if it is more consistent. The most important thing is to hit the fairway.

I second the above - couldn't have said it better.

Hitting the fairway should be you priority with all the shots you've got to play with. As you improve you should notice the driver going further. Somewhere between 200-230 and you'll be doing fine.

Scoresaver 2 ( (Link) says that 190 yards is about right for an 18 handicapper. Having said that, there are many different types of 18 handicapper and your figures look fine to me. Accuracy is much more important than distance so maybe you should look at your fairways hit percentage instead (SS2 says you should, as an 18 handicapper) hit 36% of fairways and 13% of greens.
