drivers.... why titleist and tm?

Reading through the thread I'm surprised it took the turn it did. It was interesting seeing viewpoints on TM and then seeds of personal pointers were laid, misunderstood and it turned into a playground tiff. A passionate defence of an opinion is a good read as long as it doesn't turn into a p1ss1ng contest, which unfortunately it did.

All people on the forum have to understand that an opinion, no matter what the correctness of it is, has a right to be heard. Just because a poster is less of an established name on this site, doesn't mean that his/her viewpoint has less credibility. Conversely, everyone should be open to learning and thus taking on board knowledge from reliable and proven sources.

Well said me.

I think after this load of spouting and posturing it is fair to say that there are different horses for different courses.
Personally I like the Superfast 2.0, it is long and a little forgiving. I also liked my Ping G15, very forgiving but also went very high. I tried a Titleist and couldnt get on with it, would I call it dung? no because it is me, my swing that doesnt get the best out of the club.
Any handicap golfer that calls a club rubbish is wrong. it is us (the only variable in this equation) that are the questionable link in the game (with regards to actually hitting the ball). I have seen pros hitting all manners of clubs over the years and with plenty of success, I dont think the amateurs have gained the right to dismiss anything for any reason other than their own dodgey swing.
I also see people complain of noise, perhaps it does make the right noise just not from the toe, heel or crown.

Well said indeed. I would like to add that without the use of (intentionally or unintentionally) emoticons the tone of a post can be subjective. For the record I too would have taken Ethan's original reply as rude and condescending. This may not have been intentional and I apologise to Ethan if so but that is what happens sometimes on a forum such as this. Personal attacks are not acceptable and people trying to justify them for any reason is also unacceptable.

I am sure with hindsight ethan may see what he initially wrote was rude and that was what annoyed me. Difference of opinions will always happen and I am apologise for maybe over reacting. This is a very good forum with lots of great discussions and it will only get wrecked by people fillinf posts with personal attacks.

Ethan, give us a kiss and a

Personally you can like what you want Brendy. Personally I will too. So if you are trying to get a reaction by singling out my post alone. Well single away but I'm too long in the tooth to play your little games.

That isnt quite what I was saying, no games involved either. I was merely saying that clubs which have millions invested in R&D or handicap occasional golfers, who is more likely to be consistent?
Blaming the clubs doesnt get away from the fact that we chose them (hopefully having demo'd them before buying). Now, if Luke Donald, Tiger Woods etc stepped out and said, yea that club is a poor effort and doesnt do what the makers say, then fair enough.
I also said in another post on the forum this really does prove that it is horses for courses, what works for one person may not work for me as I have a slightly descending blow with my woods.

This was a general post, if I had wanted to single anyone out, I would have mentioned names, chill out.

Apologies if I took it the wrong way. It just felt that it was all based on my post as I wrote Dung and spoke of noise etc. I have also written before that I believe the shaft to be the main thing with a driver and personally have found it very difficult to get a stock shaft from most companies to suit my own swing.

No hard feelings mate. Going to go try and get my Winter League played now lol

Lol no I was surprised when I saw that reply, part of the whole rant in the thread has been removed to tidy it and my post was including all of that, no hard feelings at all (I guess that is forums through and through, its not quite a conversation where you can get thoughts and replys instantly to clear things up).

Some of your posts recently have been spot or regarding clubs, pricing etc. To be honest, It was a different thread (in fact generalising as I have read and heard a lot of people mention noises) from a while back I was referring to the noise thing as I see that as a really bad excuse to forego the chance to use an otherwise decent club. the only club I can think of that really would put me off is some of the older Cobra 460cc efforts that sounded like canons going off :D

I'm not aiming to stir this up nor am I able to speak effectively on Ethan's behalf, but I think what he took umbrage to was your assertion that he had an issue with Taylormade because he couldn't afford one. That would have wound me up as well to be fair

Correct, Tiger. It sounded like a challenge which I was happy to respond to.

As I said, I have no objection per se to TM - I have an R11 TP 3 wood which is a fine club - but they are not the be all and end all of drivers, and sometimes they do take their customers for a ride with their marketing. Some of their drivers have been excellent, others less so.

To say that you just don't like or can't play other makes is absurd. Titleist has 2 heads, each with several lofts, and 83 custom shafts in different flexes. There is a combination in there which suits Rory McIlroy and one suited to a gentle swinging pensioner, and various available for almost every other golfer in between. Callies don't always go left. If you get set up properly, I can promise you there is one available you won't hook.

If you like TM, fine, everyone is entitled to use what they like, but it is always good to be honest with yourself.

If you took time to look at what was said you would realise that this was the reply ethan made to my original post regarding liking TM drivers over all the other companies. I am sure it would have wound you up enough to go back at him. But this is all done with. Why do people need to keep making issues of it?

unbelievable....time to drop it.
