Drivers from your past

ERCII- brilliant - became illegal
G10 - brilliant - sold
i15 - brilliant - sold
sumo str8fit - brilliant - sold
MP630 fast track - brilliant - still got
VR str8fit - brilliant - still got

could have saved myself a few quid if I'd stuck with the G10.....reckon it was the best out of the lot :D

1995 Forgan Rocket (went miles til the crown split)
1997 Callaway Biggest Big Bertha (again, went miles)
1998 Callaway Biggest Big Bertha (Ex Darren Clarke driver, stiff as a poker, didnt go miles but was arrow straight)
2006 Srixon horrible.
2008 Mizuno MP600 nice driver but swing weights on sole were no use
2010 Ping G15 stiff, working a treat for a year and a half now.

I dont tend to change clubs much bar my wedges which get swapped when the grooves start to fade.

Highlights from the multitude include...

Great Big Bertha - first proper driver and still the best I ever used.
Cally FT-3 - Hit some good ones with that
G10 - Good but Ping(!?)
Cally FT-i - Long, straight, ugly, horrible sound..

All sold when we fell out.....

Current stick is the 910 D3. For the first time in a long time I don't think I'm going to be changing it for a while.

Original Callaway big Bertha handed down from my Dad.

Then went through a few that did work out until settled on my G15. Still struggling with slice but I am not changing my driver it is my swing/grip that has to change.

My driver history:

Slazenger Wooden One -- First driver when I was 8 years old
Callaway Biggest Big Bertha -- Remember thinking I was the dogs!!
Callaway War Bird 6 degree -- Had throughout junior golf
TaylorMade Burner Bubble -- Stayed in the bag longest of all
TaylorMade 320 Ti -- Decent club
Ping G3 -- Played with in a rental set, loved it, offered the guy £60 and he took it
TaylorMade Burner 07' -- Best feeling driver ever when you hit it good
TaylorMade R9 (the original) -- Hated it. Worst driver Ive ever hit.
TaylorMade Tour Burner -- Longest of them all by miles
Ping i15 -- Current
TaylorMade R11 -- My future driver!

My dad went through a lot of drivers and I got all his hand me downs, which was great, except for the fact that up until about the Ping G3 they were all about a foot too long for me!!

Been playing on and off for 18 years so here's my list

Titleist 975D - still in garage
Mizuno MP600 - awful just didnt know it
Ping i15 - superb

Thats it

For me it's
Ping eye2 with graphite shaft, one of the first out and it cost me £200.00 in the eighties
can't remember anymore. I've had an 18 yr gap and my memory isn't what it was..what was the question again? :D

My only other drivers apart from the one in my signature were a juniors Ben Sayers thing and a hand-me-down Ram 10* driver that my Dad gave me. I've still got the Ram in the garage.

My list isn't very long and definitely not illustrious.

1. Wilson driver that came with my Wilson Shock Trap clubs. Actually hit it well but lacked serious length.

2. Big Hitter, made by Knight Golf I think. Not great, funny looking head and face. Long when hit well but that wasn't often.

3. Slazenger K1 Speed original version. Longer but not very forgiving at all. Needed to be hit well to be any use.

4. Nike Dymo2 SQ. Very long, more forgiving but not the easiest club to hit. Were becoming friends though.

A Cobra 427 7.5* loft. Couldnt get one here so imported it from the USA, and I just hit it so well. A regular playing companion was always asking to buy it from me. One day while having a bad round in a moment of madness I just said have the thing. Never could get it back off him!

Petron Impala ( original 1970s wooden version )
Go Orange metal driver ( mid '90s )
Benross VT Xtreme ( Grafalloy Prolaunch shaft - very nice club )
Ping K15

Haven't been able to use any of them

:(

Petron Impala (wooden)
Wilson Staff (wooden)
Ping Eye 2 (wooden)
Cleveland VAS
Wilson Staff Dd6+
Titleist 907 d2
Cleveland Launcher DST Tour

The launcher is by far the longest and easiest to hit and control.

I have had more than a few drivers

Hippo OSIV: Part of a starter set and was OK. Passed on with the rest of the set to a mate.

Taylormade Burner: Fell for the advertising spiel big time. Could never control it with the ridiculously long shaft. Sold on Ebay

Orka FK2: Great club, had the shaft shortened to give me a chance of hitting it straight. Regret getting rid of it on Ebay.

Callaway FT-5: Superb club but sounded awful. Stayed around and was in and out of my bag until finally traded in.

MD Superstrong: Decent club but fell out of love with the square heard. Swapped it for the next driver

Benross VeloCT: Excellent club but fell back in love with my FT-5 so sold it on Ebay.

Cleveland Launcher: Went to buy a launcher fairway wood then found out that there was a deal giving a free fairway wood if you bought the driver. Never really got on with it so sold it so still worked out a better deal than buying the fairway on its own.

Callaway FT-9: Been in the bag for 18 months now. Went to the Belfry for a custom fit and this came top with my own Ft-5 coming second. Slightly longer and straighter than the FT-5 with a far better sound.

I am now drawn to Callaway woods as they just seem to suit me. Once I can afford it I will give the FT-iz and Razr Hawk a try to see if there is any improvement over the FT-9

Titleist Tour Model - wooden club with steel shaft, impossible to hit notably for a beginner (bought in 1992)
Callaway BB Warbird - looked big back then, looks tiny now (1996)
Cleveland Launcher 400 - still in my travel bag (2003)
Callaway Hyper X - sounds a bit tinny but back on good terms with it now (2008)

Adult sized drivers I've had:

Howson Hippo 11* regular shaft - cheap version of the original Big Bertha
Callaway Great Big Bertha 7.5* stiff shaft - brilliant club when hit well, terrible when not hit well.
Nike Ignite 9.5 regular shaft - too whippy, purchased on advice from golf store before I knew of custom fit.
Callaway FT-5 9.5 stiff shaft - good club, but too much spin and not enough distance.
R11 - see below for details - brilliant club, I just love hitting it hard & long.
