I'm driving the ball pretty well at the moment, getting a 220 yard carry in winter conditions, getting absolutely no roll at the moment.
I got fitted for my Titleist TSI Driver a couple of years ago with the stock regular shaft.
When playing on Sunday, it was mentioned a couple of times that I need to get a stiffer shaft for my driver as the regular is really flexing when hit.
Would I see much difference changing it out......
Might ask the Pro at the club if I can get a shot of one to try.

What's peoples experience...

My swing speed at the moment is around 90-95mph. I always just assumed I needed a regular shaft. If I hit it well I’d carry it similar distances to you, but sometimes I’d feel as though I hit it ok but it would be too high and spinny, lost loads of yards.

About a year ago I bought a second hand driver which came with a stiff shaft. Plan was to just put my regular in there and sell the other. Gave the stiff shaft a go, loved it straight away. Lower, penetrating ball flight, very rarely hit a high right spinner, I feel much more in control.

A lad I play with had a similar experience.

So whilst I’m no expert and everyone’s swing is different, you could well benefit from a stiff shaft.

If you are driving it well, would you want to change? I'd only change if you think you are seeing a ball flight that is too high and balloons into the wind, if the ball flight is still good and you are hitting it well then a change might mess things up.

I get what you’re saying, at Fortrose I can get away with it because it’s a links and I get excellent distance with the roll out, but at Inverness not so much, you need to be a good driver off the ball here to score well.
I’m fitter and stronger than I’ve been in a long long time and feel I should try and take advantage of this as well.

It's meant to do that isn't it? That's how you get distance? I don't know what your swing speed is - and I know it's not a hard and fast rule - but mine is about 90-92mph nowadays and I've always used a regular (although at my last fitting I was probably about 88mph). My mates who are more like 100mph tend to use a stiff I think. I don't know where the 'cut-off' would be.

Speak to professionals, not playing partners! 😉
I moved from stiff to regular in my irons in a fitting and couldn't be happier. Driver and 3 wood stayed as stiff, on his recommendation.

It's never one size fits all in golf.

Think I’ll give the pro a shout, see what he says…..
Could end up being expensive 🤣🤣

It's worth a try but I wouldn't be expecting great changes just going regular to stiff in the same shaft.
As has been said, one brand's regular is another brand's stiff..
Weight is more important, followed by length.....get those 2 right and the flex kind of falls into place.

We are in a similar situation with Jamie, club head speed is now breaching the limits of a regular shaft and he could do with having his shaft specifications checked.

What I did try, and you could do the same Brian, is getting a shaft from Golfclubs4cash, and taking advantage of the 30 day trial period.

The one we tried for the youth wasn't working so I returned it yesterday - and I'll get a refund on that. Probably do a full driver fitting for him in a month or so and see if there's any value in a full driver change or whether a correctly fitted shaft will suffice.

Getting a stiffer shaft won't likely get you extra distance unless you are truly overpowering your current shaft. At the least get your numbers off a trackman or similar. Swing speed being important. And, talk to the pro haha

When you state you got fitted, what do you mean? Titleist have multiple regular flex shafts as standard, with different weight and kick point. As others have commented, you need to see a professional.

Is your dispersion all over the place at the moment? If the shaft is flexing excessively the clubhead will be open or closed at impact and out of control. A stiffer shaft provides more control (generally). When I had a faster swing, I needed a heavier shaft to keep the clubhead more stable through impact. My swing speed is only 100mph now and I have a regular shaft in my driver, but it could be completely different to the regular in yours!

If you believe that changing shafts will make a great difference to your swing then I agree that there is no alternative to trying them out for yourself and checking results.

I recently did a VERY scientific study on how shaft flexes have "evolved", which also shows the variation to be found. You can watch it here.
I've played with just about all of the clubs that were tested and can't really say any of them made a great difference to my shots, but maybe that's more of a reflection on the inconsistency of my swing.

Drop 250 on a Ventus velocore, the pros use them so they have to be good, right ?

I had a driver fitting at the beginning of the year. Ended us with a Velocore 6s Blue with my old Cobra Speedzone Head. My dispersion is much better and im getting a much better ball flight.
I tried the same shaft with all of the new 2026 Heads but nothing beat the Cobra. The Callaway quantum was matching it but not worth paying for. Was getting smash factors of 1.48-1.5 with the Cobra!

My CHS was around 95-98 in the fitting, I always assumed my CHS was slow and needed Regular flex but the recommendation was stiff.
When I picked up the shaft we had another session to see if there was a better head, but again the Cobra won!
