driver question (probably stupid)

Re: driver question (probably stupid)

or even a 2-wood.

Remember the Callaway Deuce???

Yes!

May I also remind the good members of this forum that Callaway and others have offered a strong 3 wood for years. At 13 degrees this is almost a driver off the deck....

I know a good few players who've used these to grear effect (much to my chagrin)

Re: driver question (probably stupid)

I have bee thinking about changing up to a strong 3 and 5 wood (effectively 2 and 4 wood) as I'm pretty short and these might get me home on the longer par 4's. I'd still have my 3 hybrid for use in the rough. Any views??

Re: driver question (probably stupid)

A strong 3 is pretty hard to hit, especially off the deck. It depends how good you are with fairway metals really.

Re: driver question (probably stupid)

So come on manufacturers... give us a fairway driver..!

isn't that a 3-wood?

A 3 wood is usually 15 degrees...

I'm saying driver lofts in a fairway format, 10 degrees even 11 or 12 degrees would be a welcome option for a choice for the bag. for those long par 5 holes

10 degree fairway driver FD... I think the manufacturers are missing a gap in the market.

Re: driver question (probably stupid)

Would anyone consider having a 3 wood bent to 10,11,12 degrees? Seeing how that played?

Re: driver question (probably stupid)

Why not just get a strong 3, 13°, and put a high kick point shaft in it? I think if you bend the head 4°, you will close it quite alot. On the other hand, it would fight the fade that you will inevitably get.

I can't see a market for a 10° fairway driver. For 99% of golfers, it would be impossible to hit. A bit like carrying a 1 iron. I don't even use my 15° off the deck, as my 5w is more reliabe.

Re: driver question (probably stupid)

I did mean an old one that doesn't really matter if it breaks/ messes up.

I know a few pro's have had drivers bent from 9.5 to about 7.5 so it can be done. I did wonder how closed the face would go though.

And obv you would have to be pretty handy with woods off the deck. I wouldn't dream of it. I have trouble hitting a 3 wood of the floor.

Homer,

had a 4 wood in my bag for some time now and I hit it just as far as a 3 but with more carry. That extra 2 degrees makes it easier to hit than the 3. Don't know about a 2 wood though. I think you'd still have to put a pretty good swing on it to make it work so consistency might be the issue. I'd probably stick with the 3 and 5. After all on a par 5 its probably driver, 3 wood 9 iron to 3 feet and a single putt - easy :D :D :D :D
