Guys,

Before playing our medal on saturday I adjusted my Callaway XR driver to -1 loft because it was a little windy and wanted a little change in ball flight to battle the conditions. I tightened it to the "click" as you should.

On the first I hit it absolutely fine no problems whatsover. When i got around to the 4th (Next hole i use it on) i swung the club back and heard a crack and when i hit the ball another crack. It sounded like it came from the Hosel of the club where it connects to the shaft. I thought it may of been a tightening issue so I gave it a little twist back with the wrench and then thought nothing of it.

On the 5th Tee, same all over again. I cant begin to believe that the shaft has broken or I have over-tightened as its the first time ive adjusted and literally followed the guide word to word. The driver is only 10 months old!

Any suggestions or thoughts to what it may be?!

Thanks in advance!

Its making this noise just when you swish the club? And its not the sound of something in the head? Its a cracking sound?

Its when I swing it, its a cracking sound, like when you flex something to much and it splinters, it sounds a little like that.

Its definitely not in the head because if when i wasnt swinging it i would here it when it moved

Take it to any pro shop that sell Callaway I did this with my Great big Bertha. Bought it off eBay. So no receipt. Sent a email to Callaway and they told me to take to local Callaway dealer. The weight at the back of my driver kept coming loose but they replaced it foc. I know you have a different driver but they will sort it. They did say that perhaps I over tightend it which seems strange as the correct wrentch can't surly do that.

I rang Callway at Leatherhead when I had a breakage of the bits that turn for setting of the loft etc , they were brilliant and popped the replacement bits in the post

I wanted to comment since I have seen the same issue with another XR driver and for sure i will be contacting Callaway since we have not used anything but the correct tool to loosen or tighten the driver settings. I suspect the tool itself may be at fault since you can see some flaring at the top of the club where the screw attaches but the club was bought as "like new" through Callaway Preowned so hopefully they will make good on it. I may point them to this thread and will certainly provide updates on how they handle the issue.

I had the same problem with my Callaway XR

I took it to Fore Golf in Chester and they told me the shaft had split. So I took it to AG where I bought it from, he took the head off, cleaned the adaptor, tightened it again and it was fine.

So was it just dirt/debris in the adapter causing the click sound?

I assume so. The guy at Fore Golf hit a shot with it and said "Definitely split the shaft"

So I went to AG, with the intention of getting the shaft replaced/send it away to Callaway, and he cleaned it and never heard the noise again.

I've had it with a driver shaft before that was fine until i tried to change the settings by the adaptor and a tiny bit of excess glue from the adaptor was sliding up and down the shaft making a crack noise each time it was swung.

Took the grip off and it dropped out

The process of taking the head off and re-tightening must have dislodged it

Maybe its something like that?

I'll try cleaning it first and then if it still makes a noise I will try taking the grip off.

Thank you both for the suggestions, will let you know how I make out.

Not had an adjustable driver (too much of a tinkerer and too much temptation) but have had rattles in my driver and always the epoxy glue come loose. Take the grip off and if drops out. Make sure the head is still attached, regrip and no issues. If the OP is using the correct tool and not over tightening I'd be surprised if the adaptor had split (although not unheard of) and that it'll be the glue
