Well heres me new to golf like a fair few other people on here....as far as driving goes just trying to consistently get around the 200 yard mark and straightish is a bonus....

Well this morning with a wind behind me and slight downhill undulating fairway..........go and somehow smash one 300 yards..I still find it hard to believe (150 yard marker 50 yards at most from my ball par 5 of 500 yards).

Absolutely exstatic about it....ended up 3 putting and bogeying, just didnt bother me that....

The whole point of me posting this is....how can 1 golf shot out of 96 give you such an unbelivable buzz that just makes golf all the worthwhile playing through all the hardship frustrations and struggles of it..

Cheers.....Kev

totally agree Kev, I havent hit the 300yd drive yet, in fact havent hit one straight yet :)

but in my last 2 rounds I have hit quite a few great mid range irons, 60-100 yd pitches and some excellent chips around the green to make me feel like a potential pro haha (the illusion is soon shot to peices by a complete duffer shot though)

now if only I could hit off the tee and play my best golf for 18 holes instead of 1 in every 6 :D

Because the golfing gods know one shot is all it takes to sign you up to another weekend of trying (and in my case range sessions too). It can be a holed putt, well played chip or even a well thought escape from rough but it'll be in there, that one magical moment it clicked and like any addict one is all it takes

I remmember last year playing on my own at my local track,
I'd never hit a drive longer than 210 yards on this straight
par 4 hole 442 yards, but this day with the wind behind me I
hit a beautiful drive 285 yards, yes and hit my 2nd shot onto
the green to about 15 feet, and 2 putted to make par, great
feeling..and I have'nt done it since.

It seems for me I'm either hitting big or completely cocking it up, there is no in-between.

I know kev and can imagine him bouncing around the fairway after realising just how far it went

Well done mate

grea stuff kev, The big drive is the the best feeling isnt it?I normaly hit it a good distance off the tee but drives ya mad when ya cant hit it straight tho (last sun) in trouble off most tees.. dont knock been 200 yards mate, the poor old tiger hit his drive 180yrds on the 14th hole yesterday.. so he would b first away with the 2nd ha ha.. playing better ball in the morning so may hit the range at some stage today with the driver before the boss goes on her hen night, babysitting from 1 , got in from work @4am so hard to motivate for the range ha ha.. balance is the tip for long drives mate, practice holding the follow through w'out loosing balance & the yards will come

Agree with Homer. Sort of thing that keeps you hooked on the game. You've done it once therefore you can do it again.

Hi Gibbo...Well I never thought I could ever hit a golf ball 300 yards mate,I am sure you will at some point when you got the suitable conditions I got and connected sweetly with the ball.

Amyway it sound like other parts of your game are going good, well done.Apart from the putter obviously, the 3 clubs I am probably using the most are driver 7 iron and lob wedge.I sem to be doing ok with them in the main.Only now have I gone down to a 6 iron on the fairway.

Its still the most frustrating and difficult sport I have ever taken up but I just love it,well addicted.

Good luck

Kev

Yes Homer I have done a few good shots in my very short golfing career so far (2 birdies in a row at my course at the 17th & 18th holes being my highlight ) BUT the buzz I got from that massive drive yesterday was unreal..but I am sensible enough to realize it may have just been a one-off,so will keep my feet firmly on the ground.....

When I finished my round yesterday I just wanted to go around again, straightaway, but had to go to work.Thats the kind of feeling my drive did to me

Brookie:thats a fear then for me,maybe never being able to hit a drive like that again...as I do well to hit 200 normally I start to think more was it a bit of a fluke/freak shot for me....

On the same hole (I am not a long hitter at any shot) I got on a par 5 green in 3 for the 1st time but over hit the shot and went around 35 foot past the pin.....and 3 putted, nothing new for me there on the putting.Bogeyed the hole which I would take anytime as a newbie on a par 5.

Alreet fellow Kev...you can tell your getting to know me!!!..lol...thats exactly what I would have done...IF I had my trolley with me!!!...I'd have skipped along with it after 150-200 yards thinking "just how far have I hit it/where is the bloody thing in the distance"..BUT I was carrying my golf bag so just moved along at a brisk pace for a while,,,no doubt I will show you where it landed when you play Garesfield with me!!..I have a special tree sussed out as my marker.....'kin hell man I am like a little kid over this...cant help it!

Cheers mate...yes that drive was the best feeling ive had yet in golf..just makes it so special when golf is such a hard game to get to grips with...be well happy to hit 200 regular and sraightish....

I will try to remember your advice regarding balance thanks
