Yesterdays round pretty much sums up this game. Started on the front 9 quite well. Bogie, birdie, par, bogie, then quite an unfortunate NR on a par 3, Bogie, Bogie, Bogie, then a bad NR on the short par 4 9th. A bit disappointed with the 2 NRs but was on 18 points after 9 so not bad and still a chance to put a good score in.

Another bad NR on a shortish par 4 10th. Followed by a par, bogie, double bogie (but on a hole I had 2 shots on), bogie. So on 27 points after 14 holes. Still not a disaster, by now I've pretty much accepted that a really good score is off the cards, so the next goal is make buffer and look to build on the positives.

Stood on the 15th tee and a junior county match playing greensomes behind us had caught us up. I rush my drive and top it. Very annoying as I'd been driving the ball well all day. My playing partners convince me to hit another, I wanted to just walk on so as not to hold the match up. I hit another on o the line of the first cut of rough. I spent a few minutes looking for it but couldn't find it. Another NR. So now I have 3 holes to score 6 points to make buffer. Nail my drive down the 16th, a normally problematic hole for me. Got 140 yards in with the pin at the front and the wind helping, decided to hit a 3/4 8 iron. I catch it pure and it pitches in the middle of the green and runs off the back. Now I have a difficult chip downhill from a very bad lie in the rough. It flies out and off the front of the green. So I manage to chip on and 2 putt to rescue a point.

So anyway, I end up clawing a point each on 17 and 18 to end on 30 points, missing buffer, getting 0.1 back, and annoyingly having played well for 14 holes.

Golf.

Days like that happen, take the positives and move on. I find its the days that I scramble well that I make a score and not necessarily the great ball striking days.

I certainly had a 'game of two halves' back in April. 39 out, 52 in. Front nine was in the rain as well and it stopped by half way. Bizarre.

Explains everything that is wrong with stableford golf....how many NRs was that ? I lost count.

I don't see the problem. He played ok, 4 bad holes killed his score. Didn't win anything and got a deserved 0.1 .

He didn't hold up play.

Golf is hard. It can be very difficult for someone with +18 handicap to go a whole round without losing a ball or multiple. constantly making them rack up snowmen gets old pretty quick for all concerned. NR the hole and move on.

Its a club golf tournament, not the masters.

Thanks for that, I was thinking the same. Played ok. 4 bad holes ruined my round. Only lost 1 ball on those 4 bad holes so it's not as if I was hitting it off the planet. Not once did I hold up play, and had 0.1 back, and deservedly so. I did have a 2 though so it could have been worse!

Not sure what Cabbys problem is but having seen his responses on other threads I don't expect anything else.
