If the ball is starting in the same direction as before and just not drawing back, it's most likely the club face isn't closed (enough) relative to the path.

There's several ways to manipulate your the clubface, you'll have to find out which one works best for you:

- strengthen grip
- more underarm rotation
- wrist at the top of the back swing (think Dustin Johnson..)

There's no right or wrong, it's all about what works for you.

If anyone else knows any more ways to control the club face, feel free to add to the list.
 
Also, make sure you are 'finishing' the swing. 'Holding off' just a little tends to open the face slightly, which could be enough to make face-angle match path.

Good point. I think thats my issue...i tried some practice swings with a split grip and the feeling has highlighted to me that there is no natural release to my swing.

I think its originated from a hip slide to force it and its finally got to this stage!
