Dr Stableford must be spinning in his coffin...

Does it bother you when people say/write stapleford instead of stableford?

What is the grammatical rule/convention that applies?

Guilty
I sloppily broke it in another thread the other day

Generally words ending in y would go to ies for a plural. However words ending in ey typically just have the s added for plural.
Obviously without apostrophes ? (if just for plural)

Doesn't 'Medal' refer to the prize?
Possibly in history.

As the authorities are rubbish, maybe the forum should come up with suggestions for a name for the competition, in strokeplay format, for the scoring type where every shot is recorded and the handicap is taken off at the end.

1) Aardvark
2) Proper
3)

If a vowel precedes the 'y' then the ending is 'ys' - valley = valleys
If a consonant precedes the 'y' then the ending is 'ies' - boundary = boundaries
