basicly i feel as a newbie, playing for 6 months in total i feel i may have jumped the gun and gone for irons that are a little too good for me,

my bad shot is a very very nasty strait pull left, no hook just way left but strait, i do get the odd hook and slice top and thin but the killer is the pull

so do you think changing to a more forgiving set of irons will help me out a little more, i will also be taking lessons to rectify the issue

alltho i do have the rare good round, i cant help thinking im making it harder for myself with these irons which are marketed towards the mid capper

any advice appreciated

Have you had any lessons?

Although they are marketed for the mid handicapper, they are supposed to be pretty forgiving and so may well be the set to carry you forward.

A few lessons will point you in the right direction im sure

Richie,

I had a stock set of Wilson Irons that I was convinced were not the right setup for me. I toyed with changing them for far too long. Changed to a custom fit set of irons and it removed any doubts about whether the irons were at fault or if it was how I was swinging them.

If you doubt the clubs, might be better to get something you can stand over and feel confident with

Did you have the clubs custom fitted when you purchased them or did they just come off the rack? I think you are the one who knows if the clubs are right for you or not.

Richie

It sounds like you are suffering the sames problems and inconsistencies most of us suffered when we started playing. At a guess your trying to hit the ball to hard and may have a few minor issues that can be sorted out with a few lessons.

The Nikes are good clubs and should give sufficient feedback to let you know what you are doing wrong

Have a look at Mark Crossfields videos on youtube many find them very helpful.

Sounds like your swing is the problem and not the irons.I'd book a lesson and get the pro to see whats what.If your relatively new to the game and have an inconsistent swing, custom fitting is a waste of time and money.A couple lessons might work wonders, and at least give you something to work on,without the expense of swapping equipment,HTH's

Richie, the maturer members here-me included- all started with blades as thats all there was.

You'll be absolutely fine with your set, book a couple of lessons and you'll be sorted very quickly.

Something like a straight pull won't be put right by chnaging your irons - if it was a gentle fade then yes you could buy a club that would sort it out but... You have the typical inconsistency of a new starter. Try a few lessons to confirm you're got the basics ok then just groove them in.

Good luck,

A pull as far as I understand it is caused by the club face pointing left and you also swinging on that line.

Since you are controlling both of those things from the other end of the club it doesn't matter if you've got the biggest shovels or the thinnest butter knives at the business end, the ball is going left.

I'm not saying don't change your clubs, just that more forgiving irons won't stop the pull.

Edit : Hobbit beat me to it.

The clubs themselves wont be the issue and as they are cavity backs will be designed to give you a fair degree of forgiveness and a higher ball flight anyway. It is all down to user error I'm afraid and there is something fundamentally wrong either in your set up, grip or swing that causes the bad shots. Get a lesson or two, fixed the problems and the irons will work for you. They are a decent set
