Does Hard Work make you Rich?

You do know you have opened this up to people going on about them working hard, kids today want it all and not prepared to put the work in, people prepared to live on benefits etc etc etc.

Could I suggest it is down to a mixture of all of the things you mentioned to some extent, plus I would add resilience. You don't need all of them to get rich but most people are generally not very rich through one single factor only, unless they have won the lottery I suppose, or they have inherited a shed load of money.

Just because you work very hard does not mean you will get rich, but it does help in a lot of cases if you do not have the advantage of connections, inherited money, complete luck etc.

I was once told "hard work doesn't make you rich, it just makes you tired".

Ask manual labourers if hard work makes you rich. Potato pickers, miners, road labourers etc. Take your pick, loads more to choose from.

Being rich, financial only I assume you mean, comes down to a number of factors. Much easier if you start with money. If you don't then you need grit, determination, hard work, a good idea and a big slice of luck. No one started with nothing and became rich without a slice of luck somewhere down the line.

Look at books by rich people you also tend to find they gambled everything at some stage, 2 mortgages, no family life, neglected wife and kids, went bankrupt etc. I'm not committed enough for that. I'd rather be a bit poorer and live happily.

What is rich? Happiness is the key and hard work at something you enjoy doing will make you happy. When I went to university having previously done an apprenticeship, there were guys in their forties changing their life around and they still had families to feed. It's a massive commitment and must have been incredibly tough. It wasn't going to make them rich but it was going to make them happier!
The real rich are obsessed business people and the hereditary rich. I respect the former they just love it but make a huge amount of sacrifices that you can't get back and if all works out then they can sit back and enjoy the spoils later in life having lost a fair chunk of it. They're more free than not pretty unhealthy individuals as well. But they are the wealth generators of the country, employ a lot of people and deserve everything they get. However that isn't my route to happiness.

Work smart rather than work hard is an adage that stuck with me and makes sense but most of us including me just work hard for what sometimes seems like insufficient reward...sigh.

Does hard work make you rich? In short, no.

Can hard work make you rich? Yes.

There's no guarantees and there are plenty of people working multiple jobs just to put food on the table.

Getting rich has more to do with luck IMVHO.
Right time, place, person, product at the right time.

I have been lucky in marriage and at work......worked pretty hard at both but kept the right balance.

I think the OP is suggesting 'Rich' means having a lot of money/material assets. It's very hard to get rich in this respect working for someone else, it's possible but rare.

I go with that one.

Working just 10- 20 hours a week still made one of the higher earners in our local sales team. There were guys doing 60 hours a week, I could never work out why.

Of course my post was a loaded question - as the 'I deserve the amount I get paid as I have worked hard...'. Which of course implies that those well off have just not quite worked so hard...

But to get someone to admit that their 'wealth' (however relative that might be) is down to a large amount of luck and good fortune - well that can be a bit difficult. Especially when they are being asked to give up a bit more of it to help out those who have less.

Your Health is your Wealth.

I have worked with many people who worked way harder than me and many more hours for a little extra reward.

Work smarter not harder and spend as much time as you can with the ones you love.
