Dodgy scoring

I try and keep track of shots all in my group play as there are few things more frustrating than getting to the green and someone stopping to try and work out how many shots they have played before they chip or putt (usually when theyt are trying to decide whether they can get a point in a stableford or if the can win/half the hole etc).

I have played with a couple of people that had very questionable morals around scoring.

Example:
Played a fourball matchplay - my playing partner sliced a wicked one into the woods, then came the 'found it'. Which he chipped out and onto the green. I said 'no! you didn't find it mate, they won that hole' which he didn't contest.

Second example and most recent:
Saw my FC use his leather wedge to give himself a better lie in a bunker on 18. Didn't say anything as the game was already over. Saw same FC top one in to a bush, then put another ball down to play his shot again. He saw me staring at him and said 'I'm just having a practice shot' when I asked him 'so what happened there then'.

Third example:
Guy missed his putt to then say 'that was a gimme though so put me down for a 4' ...

4th example:
Me and my FC tee off - he hooks it and I've sliced it so we are the best part of 150 yards apart. I find mine and hit it to the middle of the green. He doesn't find his and asks if he can drop one to play 3, I agree (not in a competition), we then both 2 putt and he says 'what did you make on that hole?' I reply '4', he replied 'same here then' .... I would have won the match 2&1 on that hole. It goes down the 18th and I win 1up.

It is frustrating but I can live with it. But I do find it funny when people say they aren't improving. How I you going to improve when you keep cheating...

Oh dear - I am either blind to it or I am lucky that I have never really come across any of that sort of nonsense in all the time I have played. I blame falling standards of etiquette etc. and lack of understanding and feeling for the true nature and traditions of the game :) They pay their money - they shouldn't have to put up with writing down embarrassing scores. Where does your chance of claiming bragging rights go if you have to be scrupulously honest. They don't pay a lot of money to be a rubbish golfer - they deserve good scores. Come on - golf is difficult after all - no harm in a little leeway!

Played with a guy a few weeks ago and it felt like leaving every green the conversation went - FC: "That was a 4" ME: "5 wasn't it!" followed by a group count-up before FC: "Oh yeah, forgot about chipping out from that tree/bunker/etc" I understand that people make mistakes forgetting a penalty shot/chip out from behind a tree or whatever but to do it constantly raises questions!

I've just remembered another mate of mine who I really enjoy playing golf with.
He was new to the game but had decided that he never wanted to be given any shots as he felt it would be cheating if he won (obviously it wouldn't be but that is how he had decided it was to be).

He got really annoyed with me during one round when I told him he would either have to go back to the tee or lose the hole if he couldn't find his ball. He said 'so much for just having a fun round of golf then' ...

Ah the game of golf is a complex one!
