Since the new year I've been swimming and gyming, 1-3 times a week depending on how i feel and work etc

Normally a mixture or row machines, cross trainer, cycle machine , 15 mins on each. Then a brief session on weight machines, 3 sets of 12 reps on 3 different machines. Pretty much making it up as I go along.

In the past week I started on the running machine , partly out of boredom but also I wanted to know what 10k feels like. So many people it seems talk about how they run 10k last night , before work etc I was curious.

I did 6k in about 35 mins on Friday ( don't laugh) before my legs and feet were telling me that I needed to stop. My trainers (adidas samba) are not suited to running and I know that I have fallen arches so I will be investing in some decent footwear, even perhaps custom fit (suggestions welcome how/ where to do this).

I did another 3k tonight but muscles were still aching from Friday so didn't do anymore.

On a plus side my lungs felt like they could go on though.

I jumped onto the cross trainer for a good 30 mins (much easier on the joints!)

Rounded the night off with 12 lengths of the pool. No sauna or jacuzzi treat on this occasion. 😔

Ache like a b**** now but glad I went.

Doing all this to

a) lose a stone
b) try to look a bit more toned for Summer and beyond ( lose moobs if I can)
c) see if it actually can help my golf

What do you guys do to try to keep fit? If it's a New Years resolution are you still going?

Gym 3 or 4 times a week since new year.

Was Captain at my club last year and gained about a stone and a half with too many dinners post golf.

Want to get back to 10st 7lbs by end of March and have currently lost 7lbs from my target.

Would love to but carrying too many injuries. Once upon a time it was golf Sat morning, rugby Sat PM. Golf Sun morning, football a Sun PM. Gym Mon to Fri lunchtimes. 5-a-side Tues night, rugby training We'd night, Football training Thurs night. Summer would see the rugby training dropped for golf.

Other than that, not really very active.

When i was in the RAF i used to be either playing a sport or in the gym every single day of the week

Sat - Hockey match
Sunday - Football Match
Monday - 5 a side - Gym
Tuesday - Hockey Training
Wed - Football Match
Thursday - Hockey training
Friday - Sport in the gym lunchtime

I did a variation of that for 22 plus years and my body took its toll- two knee ops , spine issues , two dislocated shoulders , 7 broken fingers , one broken leg and regular bouts of sciatica

I have a enough metal in my leg - will need another back and knee op at some point and rattle with pills :D

So would love to go running etc more but running on hard ground kills me - so do pilates/yoga , gym work in regards non impact and swimming when i can.

Try..??
My body is in tip top condition at all times, I don't need to try....
It comes natural like......😂😂

Don't forget the core. Try 10-15 mins on the mat doing reps of plank, side plank, sit-ups. Surprising how much of a sweat you can get up if you push yourself a bit + you don't need a gym for these.

My "work-out" used to be....
8 mins treadmill
mat exercises as above
Several weights along the lines you describe
3 reps of 500m on rowing machine faster each time (which is surprisingly vigorous on the third rep)
Then another run, maybe 3k in 15-18 mins depending on the current fitness level.

I say "used to be" because I got lazy, haven't been now for over a year and must get back into it soon and lose some weight. Used to alternate the above with just the core exercises and a 5k run and go 2/3 times a week. Both variants less than an hour. I'm lucky as didn't do much at all from school to the age of about 45. My knees are like brand new. Nearly all my mates who did football etc say they can't run due to knee problems.....it's whatever suits you at the end of the day.

I used to gym 3 times a week minimum, but i've lost interest in it since the dark winter. Seem to be too busy to go at the moment, even though i still pay for it.

I do football on a monday night, golf at weekends, so i am active.

Its just hard to motivate yourself after a full day at work.

I can sympathise with them!

I will persevere with light jogging in a comfortable pair of trainers on the treadmill and see how this goes. I don't want to go mad but if I can do a 10k run once a week I will be happy with that.

A friend of mine knows a 60+ guy at his work that runs 6 miles a day - wow.

Plenty of people at the gym walking great distances on the treadmill for those of you that want to ease yourself back into it.

I seriously let myself go after I quit playing rugby but am trying to do something about that now.
I do circuit training twice a week with a bit of boxing thrown in for variety and I am shortly going to be starting on doing a park run every Saturday. The down side is that this leaves less time for golf but I am now feeling that the fitness is more important.

My granddad did his last london marathon aged 68 (in sub 4 hours), played rugby (full contact, refused the purple shorts) Until he was 70. We once played in the same team, there was 50 years between us! He is still going strong now, so fitness plays a big part in wellbeing as you get older! He is now 86.

I'm a bit of a fitness freak - although a bit less these days as the body tells me to be a bit easier on it. Start most days with 60 minutes on my stairclimber. 5 days a week it's golf, plus a walk with the dog and then some more formal exercise early evening. I've completed Insanity, P90X and T25 and currently just dip in and out of those, depending on my mood. I am getting lazier though and on days when it's stepper, golf and dog walk I'll do some press ups and chin/pull ups and call it a day.

I do two hours of Aikido practice three times a week, getting thrown around by the young 'uns, complimented by by two to four times a week walking around the golf course. Keeps me fairly fit despite the tendonitis in the shoulders and groin, or the back aches and tweaked fingers and toes.

I try to do as much cardiovascular exercise as I can whilst making out with the wife.

We're both in tip top shape due to high drives.

Best sweating exercise there is.

My only exercise currently is walking Max, golf is very hit and miss, especially when 2 of our greens are flooded, I'm watching my diet currently which has lost me a stone initially, but as far as going to a gym, no thanks, been there & done that.
