Do you remember the good or bad holes when you get home from a round?

It depends on the overall round.

If I scored well I remember the bad ones which cost me an even better round, but if I have had a stinker I take encouragement from the good shots.

I wondered what people reflect on - the good holes or those you left out there?

I reflect on both. Oddly (or maybe not, for those that know me) I tend to remember the bad ones for EVER....no joke, years, and years.
I went back today to a course I played last year. I had a right old mixed bag last time, everything from birdies to a quadruple bogey. Today, I just wanted to do better on 3 particular holes, which I did... :). Trouble is, I now have 3 new "bad holes" I want to go back and replay.... :(

One day, I'm going to write an article titled something like "defensive golf for the weekend hacker" and tell some of the stories about how I've used odd course management to solve the hole or two at every club/course I don't seem to be able to play.

3 x 7 irons anyone?

or even 9 iron + 1/2 SW to a 189 yard par 3?

or my favourite......(on the 6th a mine).....5 iron + 3 wood, + GW....?

right, I'm off for therapy. :o

I tend to remember the bad ones more (probably becasue there are more of them) but also enjoy the bad ones. I guess as long as I'm not thinking about the bad one next time I'm out playing and so setting myself up to hit another bad one then it isn't too much of an issue. I do get frustrated though if I've hit a good shot the last time on a particular hole and then can't repeat it next time

A combination of the two for me, but the bad ones seem to get more attention, especially as one bad shot can totally destroy a good card! I think it's just part of the game to think about the shots we left out there. I remember shooting a pb last year and sulking into a pint back in the clubhouse due to the number of duffed chips and 3 putts on my card. Stupid or what!! :D

Still, there's always next time :)

Interesting responses from all - looks like a fair few have the same hang ups as me after a round.

Tried something different today and have looked at the recent bad holes and plotted out a different strategy to try on each - aiming for a different part of the hole or a different distance to take out the hazards a bit.

Gonna head out tomorrow evening and try it - could be thinking about the good ones this time tomorrow :D

Re: Do you remember the good or bad holes when you get home from a rou

The holes i probably spend most time thinking about are the ones wheres i've come close to plating it perfectly. The ones where its maybe only a bad bounce or being an inch or 2 offline thats meant i've taken a par or bogey instead of a birdie or par and just think about how i can get it right next time.

The holes i spend most time talking to people about are the good ones and im usually able to have a laugh about the really bad holes after a round.

I set myself up an EXCEL spreadsheet and after every competitive round I note down fairways hit, greens hit, putts, etc so that I've got a good record of my golfing 'career'.

I find it useful, not from a psychological point of view, more from a performance view. I use it to see where my weakness was - driving, approach play, etc.
