Do you occasionally miss a putt from within 3 feet?

Just another Luke Donald stat for 2011 which is more than impressive.

Luke was 1 of just 5 players on TOUR with a perfect putting record inside 3 feet in 2011. Donald went a perfect 529 for 529 when putting inside 3 feet this season.

Very very good.....thats why he's number one. Us guys......well we need the greens these guys play on for starters.

I have some issues with this area and my mates know it. I am almost always asked to hole out because I have the ability, not just to miss, but to miss by a few inches either side. It's weird when it happens because I know it's coming but it only happens once or twice a round. When I stand over a short putt I can't seem to get my eyes to actually focus on the hole and I almost 'float' away from where I should be aiming. I am stupid enough to still make the stroke instead of backing off and starting again! I thought I had the yips but I am assured by my playing partnerss that the stroke was sound I just ended up aiming somewhere else!

.

Of course I occasionally miss the longer putts, however I rarely miss from inside 6", unless I am under pressure to make a 50p bit.

Longer putting (6" ++) requires dedicated practise, this is something I shall take on board next season and will try to improve my stats to somewhere near Luuuuuuukes standard, shall we say no missed putts from 6" and 50% or better on the longer ones.

I used to miss these all the time. I think about 2-3 a round. It was really hurting me. I had a putting lesson and all we concentrated on was holing out from 3-4 feet. I can't remember the last time I missed one since. It was all about technique and I would never had got there without the lesson. Money well spent.

Been an issue for me over the years. This year in particular I spoilt a good round by missing a couple of short ones at 15 and 16. Got nervous I think. Very annoying when it's the difference between matching your h/cap and a 0.4 cut.

Tends to become a mental thing for me. I miss 1 or 2 then I start thinking I'm going to miss every one. Usually find if I spend some time practising holing out I get my stroke and confidence back.

If there's little or no break, I don't tend to miss.

My bad short ones are where there's a hardish break. I miss when I'm torn between dropping it in almost deadweight using the full break, or ramming it in at pace to remove the break. Occasionally on those I'll fall between the two and miss on the low side by dollying it without enough break...
