Do you have to book tee times at your club or can you just tip up and play ?

Have you recently moved to a booking system and what did established members think ?

How do you deal with the people who are no shows ?

Do you have a web based system or have to call the pro shop to book ?

If your club is a tip up and play do you think that becuase of the demands on peoples time etc we will all have to be booking our tee times in 5-10 years? or may be just at weekends ?

Moving from Patshull Park to South Staffs (courses you know obviously Wolf ;) ) I have seen the huge benefit of not having tee times. Only for the comps you book a time.

Patshull was a really nice course but having to book 3-5 days in advance for a tee time when you can't be sure you can make it wasnt practical for my circumstances. Now at South Staffs there is times when the course can be busier but there are times it's quiet and you can just tip up and play when you want. If the tee is busy there is no problem walking down to the 4th or wherever you want on the course and starting from there.

I'd personally hate it if South Staffs became a booking system. Having seen both sides of the coin it's a must for me to be able to tip up and play.

We have a tee booking system which you can do either over the phone or online.

I've experienced both booking and non-booking at different clubs and see the pro's and con's of them, but I don't mind the tee booking. I think it's mostly there for busy times, as I've rocked up in the evening after work and managed to get on by going in and paying my green fee without a problem. Now I'm a member, I'm sure I'll probably just have to pop into the pro shop and tell them I'm going out, which I don't have a problem with. Helps them manage and monitor the foot fall of the course to find out if people are using it or not I suppose.

Tee times are very useful at busy times though. It means no endless queuing if you want to go off at a peark time.

I like that we can book online too.

Curiously Wolfman, has Oxley become a booking system?? I thought it was like SS and just tip up for a game??? (never played it so I could be wrong there)

Have to a get you a game up there Steve sometime in the spring summer :)

No we are just a tip up and play and i think we will stay that way for quite a while.
Its just some homework / research i am doing, canavssing opinion - trying to give people more flexibility and reduce waiting times on the tee at peak times etc

As Aztec says - the computer generation coming through like to do everything online so its an option we are considering

We have a booking system - you can book one week ahead, this system irks me in that for our normal Saturday game we can book over the phone from 7.30 a.m. and I can usually get through within 10 minutes yet find that all the tee times I require are booked :D
We usually turn up for the later than wanted tee time early and find that there is no-one waiting and no-one on the tee.
This has been pointed out to the committee and only once have I seen anyone checking players against booked times.
I have no problem with booking times - it is people who book times and can't be bothered to turn up or cancel that irks me. This is where I think the chute system is fairer, at least you know the owner of the ball is at the course to play.

Ive narrowed my search for a new course down to 2 course, one opperates a tee booking system, one doesnt. I must say the booking system is one thing that is putting me off one of the courses.

For me a private course should be about rocking up, seeing who is available in the bar and going off.

At my previous clubs we didnt have to book a tee slot, which was nice if you fancied a spur of the moment game after work, late afternoon or even on a saturday morning when you didnt expect to be playing.

Azrec - what system do you use to book online please ? is it a 3rd party system or one that your club has in house ?

We have certain times during the day which are bookable, and certain ones which aren't. All comps are booked. That said, most of the time, even when it is fully booked there are no shows. For this reason alone, I hate booking systems. It does not make best use of the course.

Yeah sounds good mate, I'll be up for that come the better weather.

Its certainly a modern way to book a tee time using the computer system but I don't think all course will need the change.

South Staffs doesn't come across as somewhere which gets 20 people queueing on the tee. People tend to have their own times they like to go out and generally know the busy times and work around it. I've never had to wait once on the tee just yet. We do have the usual seniors time on certain days and ladies out on a Tuesday morning... Even though they have equal playing rights and ladies day on a Tuesday is now not allowed as we can't have a mens day... Equality n all :)

It's done through bookatee.com, apparently.

No booking of tees at our place other than for competitions. I usually check the diary to see what ladies/vets comp are on when I play mid week and we have societies at times as well. Generally it all works fine though

Booking system but it's not always used - turned up at 2:30 on Sunday, having booked a tee. Turned up to find two groups ahead of me, one on the green and one halfway up the fairway.

Didn't mind so much as I used it for short game practice, and they were quitters as soon as the snow came on!

Nairn you have to book, they get a lot of visitors so its best to. Tain best to check in case they have a block booking of visitors, but most of the time you would be fine apart from Sunday morning then its best to book.

This is why we have a booking system. Our course is very popular with pay-and-players. As a member we can book further in advance (up to 10 days..or 14, I forget which) and have preferable tee times.

At The Warwickshire we have online & phone booking & it's a pain in the a***. In theory it reduces queues but since you can't book more than 2 weeks ahead, unless you get online by 7:35am on Saturday to book a fortnight in front you can't get a time before lunch on either course!

The other problem is that people want to avoid being teamed up with strangers so they just add random friends into their booking to fill up the 4 slots so you end up with huge numbers of 2-balls waiting for each other at every tee.

Have some mates who play up the road @ Leamington (pitch up & play) and I've never not been able to play when we want.

It makes sense to be able to book if its a pay and play course, not always the case as i remember.

I remember in the 80's my Brother used to play with a few of his mates at local municipal courses. We lived in Harpenden and he had to go to Batchwood Hall in St Albans or Stockwood Park near Luton. He used to have to be there at 6 am and queue for 3 hours just to get on. It even got to the stage of them going to the nightclub and teeing off as it got light. I always thought this was ridicules and always had a laugh at his expense as I didn't have any interest in playing at that time :D
