Fixed it for you, ;)

We can all make stories up to prove our point.

Do what you like, nobody ever died because they did or did not tell their playing partners what ball they were using on the 1st Tee.

100% with you there

Edit to add: whether its a round when I've declared my ball or not, it has made no difference to the game/result/enjoyment

(Us low guys normally tee off first, so this happens a lot).Maybe this lack of etiquette is due to high handicappers playing off the 1st tee first and out of turn in comps - should know their place.

Seriously? i'm not sure whether the  was about the '...know their place' or the initial tee-off order. Apologies if I've interpreted it too seriously!

While there DOES seem to be a convention of low 'caper going first, there IS actually a Rule on Order of Play (10). There is (normally) no penalty for breaching this Rule however. In Strokeplay, the order on the first tee is determined by The Draw, or in absence of one, then 'by lot'!

Strange....I always seem to draw the short straw..😥

Yes, I was joking.......or was I, Muuuhaaahhhaaaaaa.:D

My opening gambit was to throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

My second one, was an opinion that marking your ball should be a rule of golf AND this was another opportunity for cheats to prosper by, as they can claim any "Titleist" as their own. However, if they have to mark their ball, as well as announce it on the tee, it would give them less opportunity.

As Imurg says, one scenario is 4 people in a comp all hit off with unmarked balls, none of which are announced......and they are all playing Titleist "4"s. What happens then if they all finish within 5 yards of each other?

trouble is phil that, some may think that is an extreme example and would never happen. But it can. Trev bought us all a sleeve of Wilson staff DX2s with the Hunstanton logo on them when we were in sunny Hunny last week. He was a bit bogged off because we would not play with them for two reasons.
1, we would of lost the lot at Hunstanton.
2, We said that we would not play with four balls that are the same because of the chance of ball confusion.

Getting mixed up with Liverpool Phil, I've never bean more insulted in my life........

I wonder what ball Arsene would play, though......maybe a yellowing, scuffed, used for 4 rounds Ram(mell), with 8 stars marked on it (FA cup wins).:D

that's why sharpies were invented

I always used to take a photo of all the balls in play at the start of a round but they banned mobiles from my course. Now I just hand draw them at the start of the round on a bit of paper. The lads I play with can't be trusted and according to these forums 90% of golfers are cheating barstards. I also find it best to check peoples bags to make sure they are using 14 clubs before tee off in case they've chucked in an extra wedge.

Lol.

You do know though, that those who constantly bang on about it on the forum are only having the 'cracks and the bantz'.

They'd never dream of being such two hats in real life.

Correct, just like some wouldn't dare say some of the rubbish/garbage they say on here to someone's face.;)

Am positive that's not why sharpies were invented.

Am also positive that 2/3rds of the people that voted on this disagree with you, In That they do actually declare what ball they play.

Now this is the sort of majority that should have been required for Brexit, not some 2% that can change the other way in the passing of a week.
