"Manners cost nothing" so they say.
So why is it less and less people say please and thank you these days ?

Even on here I have to say...
"how do I...
what's best for me...
Have you tried...."

No please or thank you, just the occassional "cheers"

If I was asking for someone's help I would make an effort.

Or is it me?
Am I turning into an old cumudgeon like you-know-who?
Thanks for reading my rant.

(Maybe I should go back to bed and start today again :()

To be honest Bob, I completely agree with you. It doesn't cost much does it?
But it seems like it's becoming a rarity these days. I'll hold a door open for anyone - do I get a "Thanks"? Not often.
A reflection on Socety today - it's all me, me ,me - bugger everyone else.

I guess on here Bob that there is you , me, Smiffy, HJS and loads like us who used to write proper letters with all the niceties and then the "text brigade" where the message gets sent but wording is an absolute minimum. I send texts but insist on spelling every word fully and punctuating the message as well!

I am sure that in the real world they are all decent guys so, in answer to your question - it's an age thing!

My 10-year old daughter held a door open for a woman in a shop the other day and she just barged through without a word.

So my daughter quick as a flash "Thank yous are optional at weekends" really loudly. Chip off the old block!

My wife and Mother in law insist on 1 letter words in texts, I ignore them or reply that I don't understand and only read English. It is a pet hate of mine too.

I dont know what it was called in the UK but it was referred to the CELTIC TIGER (pronounced Keltic) over here , when that arrived, manners courtsey & politeness left the building Bob.. Even on the golf course now the courtsey of just lifting your hand to acknowledge other players..or pausing as you pass another teebox until player has hit off. If i hold a door for someone & they dont say thank you i will always say loudly YOUR WELCOME , must admit i would use "cheers" a good bit ..nothing to do with age it is to do with the way you were brought up , if our kids dont say please & thank you il just stand ther looking at them with a puzzeled look until they do... THANKS for your rant now go back to bed & start the day again you old cumudgeoner you :D :D

forget the forum, my biggest pet hate is when you give way to someone when driving whether it be letting them out of a turning or what not, and no acknowledgement is given. that fooooooooks me right off.!

regarding the forum, id like to think we are all cyber friends here and dont expect a thank you for any help given, but if im posting a thread requesting help it will normally be finished off with thanks in advance, that way if i forget to thank anyone personally for their reply ive covered my arse so to speak ;)

Could not agree more. I hate ignorant people in general but ignorant people on the road just takes it to an all new level of hatred!

I'm not fussed if they acknowledge me, just get on with it and get out of my way. If I flash someone to let them out, go, don't hang about waving, then trying to find first gear and where the heck the handbrake lever has gone to. Get a wriggle on, and I may not have to even slow down.
