I am also in the slightly dubious camp about how dispersion is displayed.
Sorry if this is silly question but when ever there is a discussion on this driver or irons that are being tried the question of dispersion puzzles because if I go to a fitting or the range to try a club surely the dispersion left to right is down to me more than the club, so are we talking about long to short dispersion?
If I'm 145 to the centre of a green I have one go at getting there not the 10 ~ 20 at the range so I would want to be confident that the club I select with a decent swing will get me there Plus/minus my capability which in my case would be 15 yards. The left and right is down to my alignment, my swing path and the other variables that struggle to control because I'm an amateur.
So when I try a new club and the fitter says your dispersion is better with club X is that not going to be the case because I pick a ball and position it the line up to the same target and re-create the same swing as the previous shot, therefore if I have reasonable handicap would I note expect the dispersion the good. I understand if I was using a Steel shaft then tried a graphite shaft initially i might see a difference once i have repeated a few swings one to another would I not expect a similar dispersion?
If you hit enough balls then the average dispersion has got to mean something surely?
