I have a set of TM Burner XD Irons, these are a superb Iron, forgiving, easy to hit, great feel and dont look too bad, however I have fallen in love with the AP2's. My TMs are quite strong lofted, 39deg 9 Iron and a 26 deg 6 Iron verses the AP2's at 43deg 9 Iron and a 31 deg 6 Iron.

When I tried the AP2s I noticed that I was overshooting a few greens etc as I was 'clubbing up' due to their lesser loft.

Shocked I compared again and I was right the AP2 6 Iron is approx the same length as my current 6 Iron (170yards) - How can this be???? Is it a product of shaft and ball flight?? I am on the boundry and can hit both stiff and regular shafts, for stiff I need to give a bit extra and for reg I need to ease it a bit, TM Irons Reg shaft, AP2's Project X 5.5 (firm) thus the firm 5.5's really suit me.

My playing partner uses MX19's and I am always 1-2 clubs further than him (both similar size, swing & ability) we always put this down to the additional loft. Quite shocked by the figures and the results. Any other ideas on reasons.

Is the ball flight similar?

My guess would be that one is all carry, and the other has a bit of roll.

Or, they are both carry, but the lower loft would roll further, if the ground wasn't like a pudding.

For the AP2s, because they are new, you may be swinging better because new stuff makes you concentrate.

Or, the lofts are completely wrong on both sets of sticks. Have you had them checked?

Who knows?

AP2's are lots more penertating. Quite a strange flight, they seem to go up steep then really bore into the wind, but did not roll much as the ground was very wet at the time - perhaps 5 yards from pitch mark.
TMs ball flight is nice large rainbow, but they sometimes balloon.

Never checked the lofts.

If you hit your current 6 iron 170yds, why do you want to change? :D
To be honest, I just adore the looks of the AP2's and the TM's are too big to my eye, I love shaping the ball and the AP2's allow me to do this more.

Hi,
It is mainly down to the shafts if you should have has a stiff shaft you would have been getting a higher more balooned flight with the stronger lofted TM'S the project x shaft will give you a stronger ball flight hence the same distance.

I have played Ping for years, but if I had to change, I would seriously look at the AP2s'.
Seriously good looking bats.
KenA, what do you play off?

Offically(24) too many, realistically after a winter of non stop practice (and a few lessons) due to redundancy high teens, I had lots of problems with my driving - which was costing me hugley - rest of my game is not bad. Now I have stopped my left wing and I am getting steeper I am putting in some good scores - last week I was 9 under my winter handicap over the 12 hole winter course.
Cant wait till the white blocks come out again and I get a few shots shaved of the numbers.
