How many of you ask for a discount when buying new golf gear?

I have been really surprised just how quickly people are willing to give discounts, both AG and the local club have given me discounts on kit by simply asking for one, typically 10 - 20% even if I was clearly going to buy anyway.

Not normally. Then again, I've not bought anything other than reduced kit for ages. I tend to wait for things to come down or be on special, then I pounce!!

If I went to buy a brand new club and it was full price, I'd only ask for a discount if I thought it was over-priced or more than my normal shops/pros.

I currently waiting for the Wilson Spine Fairways to go on special price, then I'll get a 3 and 5 probably. But not at the current price, which is more than the driver, which is being discounted a.t.m. I guess there is a Spine II on it's way or something.

It depends. My pro normally knocks a few quid off thefull cost of a club shirt or chucks in a sleeve of balls so I'd never ask unless I thought it was a ridiculous price. I did have a mate who was manager of a local AG so I was getting almost staff level discounts anyway so until he left I couldn't complain. I haven't actually bought any new kit (apart from some 2009 adidas shirts) for months and have no plans to do so

I like to try and negotiate deals and discounts. They want to sell, you want to buy so there is obviouisly something that can be worked out which is favourable to all

perfect time to ask for a discount there

I don't normally ask for a discount. I look around to get a good idea of the average price for something and if my local place is selling it for that then I will quite happily pay the price.
The only time I've really got funny over a price was around Christmas time when American Golf cocked up a few prices on their website and were offering the SkyCaddie at a ridiculously low price. I reserved the item at the Brighton branch and drove down there early in the morning to pick it up. The sales assistant queried the price (I had printed off my reservation ticket) and showed it to the sales manager. He initially refused to do the price, claiming a mistake had been made, I stood my ground claiming that it wasn't my fault and that I had driven quite a way to get there. He finally relented, and let me have it for the price quoted. Had he charged me the full price, which was "average" I wouldn't have bought it though.
I got £5.00 off a pair of AQL's from my pro shop but they still worked out £20.00 dearer than buying them online. Problem was, I needed them in an emergency (only found out my old ones were missing that morning) so paid up. £60.00 for a pair of AQL's!!!!

If a shop has put an incorrect price, they can refuse to sell you the item. They have no legal obligation to complete the transaction. Obviously they would have to issue a refund if they refused ;)

Being in "retail" I appreciate the legal situation.
But I did so much want that Skycaddie
:D :D :D

HAHA, understandable

At £97.00 it was
;)

£97 was the second cock-up then, the first, a week or so earlier, had it at £112, which is when I got mine (should have waited :D). AG head office had already made the decision at the time of the first cock-up that the on-line price (pay on-line to pick-up in store), although wrong, had to be honoured. AG (Biggleswade) phoned H/O to check when I called them to reserve it and called me back in 10 minutes with the decision.

The £112.00 price (if you remember) included the leather case and in car battery charger.
The £97.00 price was just for the unit.

I know.
I benefitted from both offers
;) ;) ;) ;)

As I mentioned before, it really is worth asking for discounts, I suspect with AG it is company policy to give a discount if the customer asks, it is just getting past that idea we have in this country that the price something is advertised at is the price that must be paid.

I remember this, it was the 27th or 28th Dec, as I bought 6 dozen Bridgestone B330s for £11.25 from the internet site and they honoured it ok with no query in fact, they arrived two days later. :D
