There have been two disappointing changes to my course this year. Bunkers on the 8th and 9th have been moved/removed. Reason? Because the ladies complained that it was too difficult to thread the ball between them both! WTF!!!! Now I'm a strong advocate for women's golf and value our female members but these holes are SI 13 & 17 par 4s that are 297 & 315 yards off the red tees. Effectively our ladies are saying we can't hit the ball in the air and land it on the green on their second shot.

The changes to the course have essentially removed a significant part of the challenge on those two holes and I'm not impressed. Sad times :(

is that the 'official' view or bar-side opinions? you know what some rumours are like, not saying it is just wondering if they are officially saying this as it does seem a bit extreme.

My home course has 71 bunkers and i dont mean garden pond size. We are talking more like roman abramavichs yatch size lol. With all in agreement they have removed some useless bunkers due to cost of maintenance BUT they have also made silly decisions where on a par 3 they covered up the greenside bunker and keept the bunker which covers majority of the fairway!!!! members were not too pleased!!!! I think golf clubs are running out of logic!!!!

It wouldn't surprise me if some of our ladies ask for the sream crossing out 1st to be diverted so they don't have to play over it.
Not knocking Women Golfers in general but I honestly witnessed one deliberately line up a shot at nearly 90 degrees to the hole just so she could play over the bridge rather than take on a 40 yard carry..

I doubt we're going to get any course developments - except of course a dirty great High-Speed rail development in a few years time...

If that's true it really is a sad state of affairs. But don't tar all your ladies with the same brush - I'm sure some will be equally annoyed as you, I know I would.

Mind you there's a certain bunker on my course I wouldn't mind filling in! ;)

My Thursday league team last year contained the ladies club champion, she had no problem driving nearly 250 yards and carrying anything in front of her.

I really think there is no reason why they cannot learn to generate the club head speed needed.

i dont think that alot of the women try to work out what to do. they just enjoy the day out half of them. theres some really good lady golfers here too. played with a 12hcp lady and saw her hole out for a two on a par 4! superb !!

I think any major changes should be put before the members at either an AGM or EGM. Changing the course affects handicaps and it shouldn't be a case of let's do x,y,z without giving it some serious thought. Suggest you write in and ask why.

I might do that. It seems as though all course decisions are made by the club and committee. I have to admit I heard this second hand but the person in question said he'd been told by the pro. It's a shame as we've lost water hazards and gained some peculiar bunkers over the past couple of years.

Wonder what that will do for the drainage?

we could do with some more bunkers at our place, we only have 6 and these are all on the front 9.
But not a chance with HS2 ploughing through in a few years time Sad Times

Fragger

We have some very good lady members, who would be upset at course changes just for the lesser players.

We also have some who apply hand cream before playing, and then moan that their grips are greasy. We also have some who moan that the fairway on a par three starts over 50 yards from the tee box. This apparently makes the second shot impossible. Despite getting two shots, on a 175 yard par three. driver, 5 wood, 5 iron, two putts. But it would be easier if the driver found the fairway? May be, but you might not be off 36 then, so you might not get two shots?

Ive played Waldringfield golf club a few times last time was a couple of years ago, cant see why it needed changing just cos some members cant play golf..........

maybe worth asking the 'real' or official reason
Will do DV but I cannot think of any other reason. The 9th had two bunkers at the front of the raised green left and right. They've moved the right one round to the side but I just can't see why any one would ever end up in it. Strange decision making whatever the reason

weve had a few bunkers resited this year, all because they were eroding the edge of the greens and/or causing other issues to the greenstaff. one of them is a bit of a shame, was better where it was before but otherwise all the changes theyve made this year, including moving about 100 trees have been for the good

Our 3rd hole has a carry of about 140 yards of fthe red tees and I would say 75% of the lady members don't make it. However as the carry is a protected environmental area there is no chance of it being changed other than moving the ladies tee right to the edge where the drop zone currently is. It would still be a 100 yard carry and I think many would still fail to make it. To be fair though they have never moaned about it, donate a ball off the tee every time and then proceed to the drop zone.

I'd be asking questions as to why the changes were made, particularly if there is an element of truth to the rumour and why it was done without any consultation or vote.
