Diplomatic immunity

Prosecution
Having to stick to the law in the countries she visits .
I hope she is extradited to face what she has done.

Her Diplomatic Immunity has been revoked according to the news.

I didn't understand this, surely everyone's diplomatic immunity is revoked after they return to their own country?

I don't think it's been revoked, it just ceases to apply in your own country; she's now in her own country so it doesn't currently apply.

Surely the more pertinent question is whether the USA have agreed to waive her right to it, therefore opening the door for her extradition?

I thought her husband hadn't registered at the Court of King James as a diplomat, and that she never had the right to DI?

Her husband is some kind of spook, may be NSA, may be CIA. Not sure what type of immunity that gives them but I imagine the US will not be sending them back here any time soon.

His career is screwed outside of the US now though. If the status quo remains, which we all expect it to, then hopefully we will put out some form of arrest warrant for her. She will not be able to leave the US, he will be marked by all and sundry as being linked to this. He can hardly go under the radar now, can he?

This does not help the parents of the man who was killed but at least it scuppers these people completely getting on with their lives again without any consequences. How much easier had they not just stayed in the UK, a deal could have been done where she gets a suspended sentence, banned from driving, does community service etc.

Their lawyer was interviewed last week (he wasn't their lawyer then) and clearly stated the Home Office were wrong and her husband had not registered for Diplomatic Immunity so she also had none. Saw him on BBC new again yesterday and seems they snapped him up! It would remain she needs to return voluntarily or be extradited to face prosecution here.

I would have some sympathy for her as it would appear to be an accident - but she should have stayed and faced the consequences. Any who have driven abroad know that at first you are 100% on it in terms of the correct side of the road but there comes a moment when you get complacent and I think this could have happened to her.

I have sympathy for her parents but think they want her punished despite saying to the contrary. I'd feel more sympathy if they were up front and said they wanted her thrown in jail and the key thrown away rather than " we don't want her to go to prison as she needs to keep being a Mum".

Anyway, that's my twopennethworth!

If he never had DI that means she didn’t.
So she lied to the police about leaving
I heard the police are treating her as absconded and on the wanted list.
They have asked for an extradition as we have a treaty with the USA.

It was an accident but by running she has just acted like a coward.

You're making a big assumption. It could well be that she did not have the intention to leave but she and her family were whisked away at very short notice and they could well have had no choice in the matter.

Well if that’s the case ,that’s even worse .
That’s then state sanctioned ,
And the USA have lied to the British Police force.

Either way it dosnt look good ,all she needed to do is explain what happened.!
