The US embassy in Berlin is owing the city of Berlin several 100 thousands of € in parking and speeding fines. The system has (had?) its purpose, but it is broken in its current form.So they can park where they want, rack up 1000s in unpaid tickets, and get away with it.
It owes major amounts in London as well as they refuse to pay the congestion charge, presumably parking fines as well if they are consistent. The US pretty much does as it pleases. The US embassy in Berlin is owing the city of Berlin several 100 thousands of € in parking and speeding fines. So now we have landed in Sydney and met up with lad. Had a meal at 360 tower last night. Stunning and e pensive. However it kicked off big style. A guy on a table farts, says he is sorry. Woman on next table takes offence, tips a jug of water over another woman's head and off it kicks. Oh joy of Joy's.
Totally agree with you but can't see Trump playing ball as I can see a situation where he would be accused of selling out a US citizen. We all know whenever it is a US citizen (DI or not involved) Trump wants other nations to waive their own laws and rules but can't see him playing ball. It’s a disgrace that this woman can kill a innocent member of the public and just leave.
What kind of person does that.
She rented a house for three years ,enrolled her children in local school.
She is a coward .
Boris needs to ask Trump to step in here and get this family some justice.
She was on the wrong side of the road, it’s very easily done I have done it myself in the USA.
I was lucky she wasn’t.
At most it was a dreadful accident ,but to run using DI is disgusting.
DI needs looking at if you can get away with this.
Homer, my understanding, happy to be corrected, is that we have reciprocal agreements with a number of countries so that sentences can be served back in their home country. That makes sense so that relatives can visit etc. These agreements work both ways so both parties have to stick to them ie if she is given an 18 month minimum term sentence then she has to serve that sentence, they can not let her out early as otherwise the whole scheme collapses and that might bite the other country as some stage going forward. I would be amazed if we did not have such an agreement with the US so the process would be trial, conviction, flight back to the US to serve her term there. It might not be as smooth as that, she may serve part of it here and have to apply to serve back in the US once inside so there would be a slight delay.Totally agree with you but can't see Trump playing ball as I can see a situation where he would be accused of selling out a US citizen. Di in its current form is broken and needs bringing into the 21st century but again is any government really going to go down that road? I feel for the family of the victim and can't see how they can get any form of closure until the woman is brought to the UK and stands trial. Even then, if found guilty, would she serve all (or part) of her sentence in prison in the UK or simply be returned to the US to serve time (and would they force her to serve the term imposed? I don't know the answer to the last part so putting it out there for those that do to enlighten me
Parking tickets and killing someone are worlds apart .They won't send her back. It would set a precedent, and every tin pot country in the world would be trying it on, for every thing from murder to parking tickets.
We have also agreed extradition to the US, it is looked at case by case. TM will not have done that lightly and I bet it was not related to a death.I don’t see her returning, voluntarily or not. Her DI will expire when her husband loses his position, so then she should be open to extradition but seeing as we have recently refused an American request (under T May) I don’t see her ever coming back to face the music.
The best way forward I see is a massive publicity campaign to shame her at home into facing the music.
