My uncle passed away today , funeral is to church tomorrow evening & burial monday,, (usual in ireland) down to play at 9.30tomorrow .... should i play in the morning or should i not ?? most of family saying play as there nothing i can do or have to be doing until tomorrow evening ??

There is no reason not to play your uncle would want you to carry on with your life. You will pay your respects formally on Monday and you will keep him in your heart forever that's all a man can do.

Firstly, sorry to hear about your loss.

It is all very well saying "play, that's what you uncle would have wanted", but could you not spend time with your aunt, cousins, parents - whoever was closest to your uncle?

I'm sure they would appreciate your company and support on a day like this and the golf course will be waiting for you next week.

Thanks guys apreciate ye'r thoughts on this . up anyway coz i had to feed the baby. im gona pop & see my ma now (it her brother)gona see how she feels, best of luck to any of ye playing today .. cheers,, Bill

Agree with this. It's a family time. What do they say they want you to do, and what would they appreciate more?

I am from Ireland (originally) too.

Play. It ain't gonna bring him back whether you do or not. Wakes can be a bit of a hooley, so a game of golf should be OK. That other bloke above who said not to play was from Yorkshire. They are all grumpy sods up there.

hi, sorry for the loss, my dad died when i was 11, and even 13 years later i continue to use the Ping putter that he used to great success, i love it and would not change it for anything! (my game doesnt quite emulate my dads ((he played off 3, im more 23!!))
Enjoy the game and enjoy the memories you had of him.

Sorry, not a Yorkshireman. Just an ex-pat Londoner up here for the last 19 years. I'll plead guilty to the grumpy sod bit though. :D

Tough one really. Part of me thinks a round even if you just hit it around without really being able to focus on the game is a good way of giving yourself some "you" time to have a think about your uncle, life and everything. However the other part seems to think you should be there as one of the men of the family to offer support and comfort. Tricky
