Different Balls for Summer / Winter??

Anything thats in the winter bag from Nov to Feb then when the weather improves in March start using better balls. I don't think it makes any diff what ball you play over winter it my home course all the greens are soft enough that any ball stops on them at the moment. I even used a Srixon Lady last Sunday:)

Was it pink?

I never used to but this winter I've been playing Callway HX Diablo Tour and will be trying the Calaway Tour i(s) as soon as conditions improve.

My bag is full of Top Flite balls at the moment as I tend not to risk my nicer balls during the summer. Strange though because with all the temporary greens etc I'm surprised if I lose a ball at the moment but in the summer I'm less fortunate.

What "nicer" balls do you play? I would think anything would be an upgrade on top-flight :D

Pro v's for the summer .. usualy DT's or NXT for the winter , found a couple of Velocity balls ans they are very nice .. come the qualifiers come the pro v's again tho

Does anyone use a softer ball in winter? and by softer I mean lower compression not softer cover, because of the cold temperatures effecting the compression, making the ball harder.
It makes sense to me, but is there any merit in it?

I use cheap balls in the winter, mostly because thats what everyone else seems to do but also because I'm not playing any competitive golf it seems a waste to be chucking decent balls away when I inevitably lose a few. They are softer compression than my best balls (which are nike one tour d or srixon zstar XV). I'm not sure if this is good, bad or irrelevant.

Everything stops on the greens in winter anyway, so I agree no need for a high spin tour ball.

Seem to remember an article in GM recommending it a few years back

Ball for winter = whatever dross American golf have told my parents is the best ball for my handicap, this years recommendation was the cally warlord.
Not sure how qualified the staff are really!
Summer = Wilson staff dx 2 or 3 - i defy anyone to pick these as non premium in a blind test (hitting the thing in the first place may be an issue though :-))

Cheap balls in Winter, slightly less cheap in Summer. Most likely this years summer ball will be the Titleist Velocity and the Winter ball will be whatever I find when walking the dog across the course.. Can't say that i've noticed enough of a difference to justify paying over £30 per dozen, but each to their own...

I've been using Wilson Dx2 this winter, at £10 a dozen I can afford to lose them. My eyesight is not perfect and I have days when I lose the ball in flight so I tend to stick to lowerr priced balls when the sun is low.

Summertime golf I'll be reverting back to bridgestone e6, picked up at £12 a dozen

I also think there is a cost thing, in the winter is is possible to lose a ball in the middle of the fairway if the ground is soft.

I play a cheaper, more distance ball in the winter, a more expensive spinning ball in the summer.

Works well for me and I doubt I will change, I just need a few hits around the green to get the feel of the different reactions. I personally think each day and sometimes each hole can vary nearly as much as the difference between a premium ball and a distance ball at most affordable courses in this country.

was whacking a few balls around out 9 hole course yesterday evening, it was getting chilly with a bit of a breeze. The only balls i had where balls i'd found walking the dogs.
Srixon Ad333, soft feel, Callaway warbird. Tit NXT and dts solo.

The srixon soft feel went further by a few yards, than all the others.
