I’m saying that in that instance he obviously missed Diego supergluing his boots to the bloody floor just before outjumping him...Are you seriously suggesting that Peter Shilton wasn't a "decent keeper"?

Further to this though, everyone calls Maradona a cheat but how have the officials got off scot-free? That must be one of the worst calls of all time, they saw a 5 foot player apparently head it over the outstretched arms of a 6 foot goalie and thought "yeah, seems legit".RIP Diego.
For me, the best player to ever play the game. Not just sublimely skilful, but also capable of making an average team great.
And FWIW, a decent keeper wouldn’t have been outjumped by a guy who couldn’t muster 6ft with his hands up and stood on a box.
It’s a good shout, but considering the political climate of the time, it was far easier to blame the tiny Argentinian “cheat”. I prefer to remember the second goal where he made a brilliant England midfield/defence look like a Sunday pub team.Further to this though, everyone calls Maradona a cheat but how have the officials got off scot-free? I think this is it. He didn't do anything out of the ordinary, a blatant handball that loads of players have done when they had no chance to get their head to it. Free kick given and nowadays nobody would even remember or care about it. Instead the achievements of the greatest player who ever lived are being overshadowed by that split second decision.[/QUOTE
Err......what about Pele, Puskas, even, I am afraid to say, Ronaldo ?
To be fair, I think they’re only overshadowed in one country. Most everyone else remembers the utter utter flawed genius of the man. My favourite ever footballer, and I was as gutted as anyone when England were knocked out.I think this is it. Sheff UtdHere’s a trivia question, which English club nearly signed Maradona for £200,000.
Greatest player is not the same as greatest person.
I remember watching it as an impressionable 12yr old and just being mesmerised by Maradona. I honestly don’t remember the reffing.I watched the game again a few years ago. The ref was shocking, blatantly favouring Argentina. Just before Maradona's second goal, Hoddle is chopped down right in front of the ref. It's so obvious.
