Did anyone else have a mare?

played our last 16 of the 4BBB winter league, I really only played 7 holes any good (3 birdies) but we won 3 and 1 and have our quarter final against a pair of 5 h/cappers. Despite the dross I played, there was the 6 iron, 3rd shot on the 17th (par 5) to 10ft which clinched the game.

It just takes one shot to bring you back next week!

Didn't have a mare, just married to one:) Been practicing and having a couple of lessons. Hopefully all will come together when I get back on the course on Friday. Not been out for a month and am starting to go cold turkey.

Saturday - total mare, could not hit a decent shot , or make a putt to save my life.

Sunday - It was like a different person was playing....A solid 2 up on the course in a bogey comp, should really have been 4 as i missed a couple of 2 footers.

Go figure !!!

No, I didn't :)

Played on Saturday in the medal in testing windy conditions. Was pleased to come 7th out of 54, with a 96 gross - net 72.

Par 70-CSS 71 (RO)..can anyone tell me what (RO) means?

When we collected our cards in the shop,pre-round, the Pro said the conditions will not make for good scoring. He wasn't far off, there were 11 scores of over 100 and one was from a 16 handicapper!

The wind didn't seem to affect my game, not like the young lad in our 3 ball who sprayed the ball all over the place, unfortunately for him.

I wonder, did it help that I treated myself to a sleeve of Titleist NXT Tours and that I sunk the last putt with the same ball from the 1st tee?

Shot a 77 for 34 points whist putting Fragger to the Sword on Friday - drove abysmally on the front 9 but left the driver in the bag for the back 9, hit all bar 1 fairway and shot 1 over gross...

Saturday at Camberley - well I didn't play well but I didn't play badly either.
Only 26 points but never having seen the course before, a stiff breeze blowing, plenty of rain and the greens being a bit slow didn't help me. I guess I played similarly both days, just scored better Friday.
Qualifiers have yet to begin at my place yet. Not sure when they start but there won't be anything till mid-March at a guess.

I played really well on Fri.
I hit some wonderful shots & had par's on holes that I had only ever bogied before.
Unfortunately, I ruined what would have been a really good card because of 3 nightmare holes, even when I tried to play safe, I still landed in a heap more trouble.

I am not discouraged though, my general play is getting better all the time, I just need a bit more consistency, I am sure a really good card is not far away.

I sure did have a mare had my Monthly stableford yesterday front 9 21 points back 9 12 points so ended up going up .1 so now off 6.4 i feel really mad with myself as i dont get to play that often as having a young family Still feeling really mad as really had a chance to get down to 5 and to cap it off my playing partner won it with 42point and got cut to 5 gutted or what

First comp of the season a 4BBB and the start sheet was full.

2 scores on all holes except 4 where three scores counted

Came in 2nd with 97 pts so a good solid start. I didn't play too great round the greens and took a long while to get the putter going but still managed to get the most points on the card for the team so overall a good result.

We did play through a 45 min downpour and howling gale that others didn't have so was a decent score considering

My mate off 28 H/C has never won anything or got a placed finish so he was absolutely made up - great to see.

Not sure 33 points counts as "a mare". Got 33 points myself - thought I played quite well, and came second. (The wind made it tough and looks like CSS will be +3) So me not counting 33 as a mare.

We had the same squall probably hit us about 15 mins before it got to you!

Played in a scramble on Saturday, striking the ball quite well, played Sunday - 2 rounds and I reckon I hit 1 decent drive, 1 decent iron and 1 decent hybrid, other than that it was frustration on top of frustration, somehow managed to come in bang on handicap both rounds, was like playing on concrete in the morning too.

Back to the range tomorrow

Had a crap round yesterday, first one back at Crowborough since re-joining.
11 points out (didn't feel too bad as 2 of the other lads playing (mentioning no names James and Anthony) had the same dismal score), only Leftie fairing a bit better with 15.
Back 9 was the same mix of decent shots and total garbage. Leftie finished on 33 points thanks to some deadly putting, James finished on 26 and both myself and Anthony ended up on a meagre 25 points apiece.
Not good. I must get my bloody alignment sorted out.
:(

I thought you posted last week that it was finally getting there and you were happy how you were hitting the ball.

Have you tweaked something else and it's all gone pear shaped again?

The changes continue, and the current one makes no sense at all. Not sure really why I am doing this, I was happier with my golf before I started all this work.

Played 6 times last week, felt as the week went on that my game just got worse. Despite feeling every round was crap and I was just hacking around, I still played to or just under handicap. The last round on Sunday I shot 82, 11 under handicap.........Not sure where that came from, equals my best round ever, admittedly was on temp greens, but still putt them out.

My 11 year old had a great week too. He beat us all on Tuesday with 44 points, topped my 39. He won a junior stableford on Thursday with 44 points, and then played a 16 year old 10 handicapper in their winter league. Was 3 down going up 9 after the other lad had just eagled a par 3, ended up winning by 1.

Would you be able to find your old swing?

Hope so coz you really don't seem to be enjoying this trip one bit.

I had a lesson on Friday then played on Saturday when I know I shouldn't have. I should have just gone to the practice area and hit 7 irons until I got fed up. I couldn't time my swing properly because I was concentrating on a quieter lower half on the backswing and a bump of the hips towards the target on the downswing. I think I improved my eclectic score on a few holes, so not all was lost.

No, and I don't think I'd want to now I know what was wrong with it. The problem is, I'm not liking the new one much either. I have the potential to hit it very well, but the bad shot is still a massive hook, and the ball flight is way too high. It keeps evolving, and may be it will all come good, but I am currently going in a direction that I don't like.

I think if I stopped working on it, the curent version may evolve into an ok swing over time, once I find my own fix to the hook, rather than some one else's cure, which I am trying to bolt on.

I am currently in two minds about the whole thing, and you are right Ian, it stopped being fun ages ago. In my head, I have written off this year, and the season has not even started yet.

Boo. That made me sad. Is there anything to be said for backing off a bit on the technical stuff and just going out and trusting your swing? Just get the set up right, clear your head and hit it? Today I scored no better than my previous few rounds since the snow and masses of range practice but I did try and trust what I had and really enjoyed the game plus hit some beauties and no real horror shows. On the range beforehand I hit a basket of 5 balls with 1 single technical thought and then 5 balls in the trust mode - so I could trust the trust mode

I looked at your swing when you posted it up on Ask The Experts and didn't reply as I'm far from one of those but to my eye it looked very accomplished indeed. Now I know that means nothing if you're not scoring well and not enjoying the process but - well it looked nice

Chin up - not literally when you swing but in general!

Par 70-CSS 71 (RO)..can anyone tell me what (RO) means?

Reductions Only. That is the highest state your CSS can be. That happens when less than around 6% of players in Cat 1/2/3 have managed to get within 1/2/3 of SSS.

It also means that no-one gets 0.1 back - hence reductions only.
