I'm having a real slump in form at the moment. Those how played with me recently have seen first hand the high, weakly fading 180 drives that have become my speciality. Since long(ish), straight drives were the strength of my game I'm really suffering....

Club championship this week and, since I've completely failed to sort this myself, I've booked a half hour lesson tonight. My ideal hope for tonight is the pro will spot something shonky and once I address it my previous feeling and swing with the driver will return. Failing that if he at least sets me on the path to trying to do the right thing that would be good.

What's the forum view.... is that unrealistic? Can it be fixed in one 30 minute session? Am I going to just fill my head with more nonsense and make things worse? (Don't think it can get much worse TBH).

I reckon you will be fine, a 30 min tune up is all you need, the reassurance from a pro with maybe a few minor tweaks will see you right for the weekend! go get them!

I think it will help massively, I always find a quick boost after a lesson (not that I've had many). Just tell them you want to spend 30 mins working on Drives. You'll hit a couple flush and your confidence will come back.

If the Pro is your regular, you'll need to consider how you are going to use him/her for the other 28 minutes!

It'll be a minor issue and all you will need is a single 'thought' to return to normal service.

Good Luck in the CCs

Sounds to me like it can , something has just slipped a bit ,whether its in your set up or your not hitting through it , id be surprised if its not something simple , your a good golfer & it dosent just disappear over night ,

Best of Luck

If its just the drives going bad and rest of the game is ok then theres a decent chance you will be sorted pretty sharp imo.

For someone as good as you, 30 minutes will be perfect...

Once you can do it and lose it... I find you are never a million miles away - Good luck with it and I am sure you will be kicking yourself when you realise you have stopped doing!

I wouldn't worry about it, i'm sure your driving will come back after a tweek with a pro. Do you not know yourself whats going wrong?

I would say I'm a fairly good driver of the ball and most who play with me would also say thats the best part of my game.

played in the clubs champs hardly missed a fairway in 3 rounds, played a knockout last week hardly hit a fairway. Played in the County champs both rounds almost all fairways hit and still had the same ball at the end of each round id started with. Played in the Moray League on Sunday, lost 3 or 4 balls off the tee and hardly hit a fairway.

Chin up

I would think it can only bring some focus to what you need to do once he spots the error/blip and as such will remove the negativity your now feeling, that in itself will install some confidence and will be well worth the 30 minute lesson.

Not really. I know that I'm not hitting through it cleanly but can't put my finger on what's actually changed in my swing. Other than a total lack of confidence and an irresistible urge to just hit the damn thing harder (which obviously doesn't help!).

Usually when I hit a bad one it's because I haven't completed my back swing or haven't turned through the ball properly but this has been going on for a good few weeks now and it's not that simple unfortunately.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement folks.... we'll see how it goes!

Having similar thoughts - my half hour session that I should be in at the moment is off as I can't get to the club. But can a half hour session sort me or even point me in th eright direction - I doubt it. But you never know - and good luck tonight with your session FD - I am completely with you.

I popped to the range last night with my brother in law. My normally good drives were going all over the place in the last week or so. He knows my swing well, took one look, said that I was turning my wrists on the start of the takeaway, 2 hits later normality resumed. Do I think your Pro will sort it in 30 mins - no question!

Chances are it will be something very basic......GASP. Grip, alignment, stance, posture.

Should be sorted out very quickly

It's worth a try - you should try to reschedule!

I need more than 30 mins to make the changes necessary to improve and drop the handicap, no question. However at the moment I just want to get back to where I was!

I had the same issue last year FD, albeit with my irons, and half an hour with the pro got me back on track. He showed me 2 things I was doing wrong and as soon as I fixed them, I was hitting the ball properly again. Whenever I hit a weak, high right one now, I know the problem and I know how to fix it. Definitely worth going.

Good luck in the CCs, too.

Have you lost it or just cant find it? You had it so it should still be there so doesn't sound like its lost, you just need to find it...

To quote Mike Bassett & Tonka:
'You still got it Tonka?'
'Aye boss i've still got it...its in me pocket!'

Have you looked in your pocket?
:D

If he's your regular coach he'll sort it in about 3 minutes and the 27 left will be ingraining the "change" (minor I'm sure) and fine tuning it and re-building your confidence.

You'll be fine and back hitting it confidently by the weekend for sure.

Not my regular, unfortunately. Championship week at the club so no chance of getting him at short notice in an evening. Plus I really want to see the results of any tweaks and we don't have space to hit driver on the practice ground....
